Even if there's not always the most consistent place for them, AEW still kicks ass in presenting queer wrestlers with absolutely zero glimpse of negative stereotypes or stigma. No big stage on the North American scene is doing it better right now, and that's not about Sonny being booked more or anyone holding belts, it's just the feeling that they're there and there's nothing foreign or weird about it, or like that's only allowed to be brought up in June to try and play good PR. Having their second women's champ be a trans woman was a big move, and nobody has once made any kind of cheap pop dig at Nyla's gender. Bowens is a gay man who's intentionally crass, but he's never playing into gay panic stuff or like he's a sexual deviant; he and Max are treated like immature jagoffs to roll your eyes at instead. But it's still a gay man who makes sex jokes being treated no weirder or worse than the straight man he tags with.I always kinda thought Caster was supposed to be Pan, since while there his gimmick was pretty much "Sexually harass EVERYONE you face off against regardless of their gender presentation"

Gotta say that a positive is that for the most part AEW does a very good job of getting young talent they want over.... over.

I like the fact they'll bring in semi Big Indy names for one of appearances and overall just generally acknowledge the wrestling world outside their bubble

Given how recently wrestling was still messing around with the ugly shit, it's been really nice to see a major promotion that gets that part right from just about day one. So recently that one of the most pushed acts on the AEW roster had homophobic back shaving jokes being made abotu them in WWE after AEW had already started. Max is absolutely presented as a closeted bisexual weirdo but he's also the butt of the jokes instead of making Bowens the butt of them.

Ryan Ward and Dusty were also a major part of NXT's early success, so when Dusty died and then Ryan Ward wasn't part of NXT's creative team anymore, the brand did start having more flaws later on. I will always say people under sell how important Ryan Ward has been to WWE. Both NXT and Smackdown's best runs came with him as the head writer Where's he at these days? Ryan Ward was so good that he tricked people into thinking that Road Dogg was good in creative.

Is AEW even doing “bad” right now? I don’t watch and I’m definitely a WWE guy, but it looks like the internet is getting too much into recent WWE events and saying things like “AEW is doing fine but the writing on the wall is there for trouble if Tony doesn’t step up,” and that’s from pro-AEW fan pages. So is AEW in a funk, or is HHH taking over just giving too much shine on WWE?

So is AEW in a funk, or is HHH taking over just giving too much shine on WWE? Yeah, I’m guessing the Triple H hype is making WWE fans excited. And they should be. But it does get annoying when you get the “HHH is back, AEW is f***ed.” Kind of takes. It’s the same when WrestleMania this year turned out to be a decent show and WWE fans were hailing it as a fantastic show and claiming AEW can never do a show like that. Plus, add Cody debuting on Night One added to the hyperbole. But I’m sure WWE fans get sick of it when AEW PPV’s get hailed as the greatest ever. So it probably works both ways. AEW is not doing bad at all. It’s doing extremely well for a 4 year old company. It’s not perfect, but no show is. It’s the most successful non WWE product since WCW died. It’s doing really good. Is it as good as it was in 2021? Creativity probably not. But it’s still high quality by pro wrestling storytelling standards.

Every episode of Dynamite isn’t a 10, every RAW isn’t a 1. On the flip side, I didn’t find this past RAW to be that great. B) It’s not WWE fans who were speaking the words I mentioned. Not to say they aren’t guilty of it, of course they are, but it seems like the centrist wrestling fan is saying these things.

One thing I think AEW does really well compared to other companies is that the have found the line between being able to surprise me with some of their booking decisions, while also still making sense. It's not like Russo's throw shit against the wall and see what sticks approach. They seem to have a destination in plan, but they'll sometimes swerve you on the road to it without damaging the foundation of the story. That's impressive, and even though I see it I'm not entirely sure how it happens.

Jamie Hayter got to shine yesterday.
Hopefully we get to see much more of her on TV in the coming weeks and months.

Anyone paying attention could tell that Hobbs was getting more and more frustrated with Starks losing when it counts but it was still a shock betrayal because he cut Starks off mid babyface promo.

So is AEW in a funk, or is HHH taking over just giving too much shine on WWE? It's a mix of momentum and wrestling fan's tendancy to speculate on things several steps ahead more than the present/more immediate future. It's more on the business side than creative though. WWE's likely to be a better option for many wrestlers than it was. This makes some think there will be an mass exodus from aew to WWE and fewer wrestlers will want to leave. There's truth in this but it ignores that aew is still likely to be the best option for many and WWE probably won't return to talent hoarding. It's also people still acting like there can only be one, like it's WWE Vs wcw rather than realising aew can thrive as the no2 American promotion even if they lose a few wrestlers.

Konosuke Takeshita is an incredible natural baby face and can get it.
They actually did an intro for Mance Warner that was a nice scene setter.
Moxley is the best fighting champ since Cena with the US belt.
They made Tony Nese a fun midcard heel act.
