I ask this before I dive into them
Ok I'm watching the 06 Armageddon Ladder Match (HOLY f*** THIS IS AMAZING), and they make the comment that Smackdown stole the show at Summerslam and Survivor Series
Were either Summerslam or Survivor Series worth it that year?

Survivor Series 2006 has a fun elimination match where DX, The Hardys and CM Punk beat Rated RKO, Gregory Helms, Johnny Nitro and Mike Knox. It’s basically an extended squash match but it’s just plain fun and the crowd are insanely into it, especially for Punk (it’s where we had the moment when HHH handed the mic over to Punk to ask the fans “are you ready?”). Other than that, the only other thing I remember is the infamous segment where Lita retired and Cryme Tyme sold her “possessions” to the crowd.
SummerSlam however was pretty forgettable. It has what I think is Hogan’s last WWE match against Randy Orton which is notable I suppose but the match must’ve been pretty dull as I don’t remember anything about it.

Summerslam had a stacked card but was pretty average. Hogan’s last WWE match, DX reuniting, Flair and Foley rolling around in thumb tacks. Worth checking out if you’re curious, but the month after it Unforgiven happened and was way better.

Hogan steals the show and gets the biggest reaction of the night. I think fans even left after his match.
This is according to Hogan

It's funny how Triple H gave Punk that moment in 06 when the two hated each other by the end of Punk's run in WWE.

Apart from Hogan getting a big reaction after his match with Orton and Cena losing in his hometown, Summerslam was pretty forgettable that year IMO.
Survivor Series 06 had Batista winning the World Title back in his hometown and the Umaga/Cena feud was starting around this time. I can't say I remember much else from that PPV either, it's more of hyperbole from WWE to make things sound better than they were.

The Summerslam card on paper convinced me to buy the show.
It is pretty bad.

Summerslam and Survivor Series were pretty average shows that year and I definitely don't think Smackdown stole the show at them. Those Booker/Batista world title matches were so bad.
If anything Raw had the best match on each show with Edge v Cena and Team DX v Team Rated RKO. Even when it came to the single brand PPVs I think Raw's were usually better that year. 2006 was not a good year for Smackdown post-Wrestlemania. There were some bright spots like the King Booker gimmick and Kennedy rising up the card but overall Raw had a lot more momentum with the Cena/Edge and Trish/Mickie feuds plus the return of DX then Rated RKO feud, Trish/Lita, the return of Jeff Hardy and a decent IC title scene with the likes of Hardy/Carlito/Benjamin/Nitro.

The Summerslam card on paper convinced me to buy the show. It is pretty bad. Pretty sure I bought it that year too. Haven’t watched it in ages EDIT: Might have a VHS of it in my garage, can’t remember if I was still recording shows at that point.

I don't know; I genuinely hate that squash match because it did nobody on the losing team any favors, especially Mike Knox. But 2006 DX is one of the worst things to have ever existed in my book so perhaps I'm biased.

Oh, I totally agree that booking wise it’s terrible and as you say, Mike Knox never really recovered from it. I also was not a fan of DX then (and haven’t been a fan of any version of it since Wrestlemania 15) as it was just HHH speaking and Shawn essentially reduced to running in circles in the ring and saying one line at the end of the promo. But even considering those points, I just find it to be really entertaining. And if you can have one of the smarkiest wrestling cities in the USA eating out of your hand and have them switch off the “smart mark” sensor for twenty minutes and just have a bit of fun, it’s doing something right.

Smackdown had like 2/8 matches at Summerslam 06 so it's weird to say they stole the show but the brand warfare stuff was always a specific brand of weird in the 2000's.
