A few years back when I did my nitro & thunder rewatch I was shocked how entertaining The Total Package was during Russo’s 1st couple months in late 99. He was awful in the ring but he was highly entertaining as a comedic heel. Plus having that era Miss Elizabeth by his side didn’t hurt.
95/96 Luger was the best Luger.

Definitely 88-91 NWA/WCW Luger. It could be he a lot of great talent who worked with him, but I feel he held his own big time.
But 97 Luger as top babyface is no joke either. I think WCW was really just the place for him. Just never could work it out in the WWF.

The story of heel Lex Luger turning his back on the friend who trusted Jim and having to rise back up and become a true hero in 97 was fantastic. Great long term, character driven storytelling that was promptly shat all over, but good whilst it was going. This. He was basically a scumbag coming from the WWF in September 1995. No one could trust him. And he proves them right by joining Jimmy Hart. And then teaming with Sting but as a heel. Then one dark night on Nitro, in the rain, which made for an amazing visual. He gets betrayed by "Sting". Now Luger and Sting switch roles in terms of who can be trusted. Then Luger realizes HE was wrong. And he apologizes to Sting. And it took until 1997 for them to make up. And when they did. It was fantastic TV.

I was in grade school. Happy face Lex was one of my dudes.
Though I thought it was dumb when he won at the Summerslam.
95-96 tweener but still friends with Sting was a lot of fun.

This thread reminded me of a question... did , Lex ever wrestle Vader? Not really. They were part of the Battlebowl at Starrcade 91 and that's as far as them in the same match I believe.

I don’t know why, but Lex never did anything for me.

Points off for not going for the obvious "I DON'T KNOW?!" For other >_>
I went with Made in the USA Lex... it likely would have stuck better if Vince actually like committed to pushing him instead of trying to press his luck.

Even though Luger was a natural heel, his 1997 babyface run was epic!!!

WCW world champion “Total Package,” with Harley Race doing the talking while Lex stands, preens and does his titty dance is best Lex While Mr. Hughes stood there looking intimidating as f***. I started watching WCW in summer/fall 90. Anything from there until he departed WCW in February 92 is the best Lex to me. That old, NWA U.S. title belt is one of my all time favorites. And that belt never looked better on anyone than it looked on Lex. Juiced to the guilds, in his blue tights, wearing that U.S. belt is what a wrestler should have looked like in that era.
