So a pair of newfound cheats for Super Punch-Out were found recently. #1. Play any boxer outside of the circuit. On controller 2 at the title screen, hold Y and R and press A or start on controller 1. #2. An actual Two-Player Mode/Control the bosses. At a player's profile page before the fight, hold B and Y with controller 2 and press A or start with the first controller. You'll be able to control the movements of the opponent, making this the closest to a two-player mode. These work on the original cart, SNES classic version, Switch Online and any port really.

While it isn't precisely a 2 player mode...why on Earth would Nintendo not mention this?
Like, you know that situation where you're invited over to a friend's house who owns the game and sets you up by them being Player 2...I mean while 2 player mode wasn't essential, it was indeed a major selling point for most casual players up to 6th generation of video games.
For the record, I've always felt that Super Punch Out is inferior to Mike Tyson's Punch Out in just about every way. But this one addition gives the SNES version an advantage that many people I think would agree adds a new challenge to the gameplay.
The more I think about it, I wonder if this was less of a cheat and instead was a debug mode that the developers used to test the game?

I have no freaking clue why this was never publicized, it completely alters the game for the better.

I do remember shortly after the Wii Punch-Out the director of that game had mentioned wanting to do another and saying he'd "always wanted a full-fleshed out multiplayer mode" that allowed use of the opposing boxers. I can't help but think of that comment now and wonder if it's a "Sonic Mania Drop Dash" situation where it wasn't some crazy idea he had in the moment or during the Wii game's development and it's been in their back pocket all this time. And just couldn't balance it (my guess to not making this feature more well known) or maintain game performance. I wonder what the tier list is I know you're maybe half-joking, but someone I follow on Twitter has found with certain characters there are basically "zero to knockdown" combos. Since the timing lags don't apply like they do with the A.I., there's some busted stuff. I saw one video where someone using Super Macho Man immediately threw three jabs into an uppercut, right into the spin punch, and if Mac gets hit by the first punch it's an instant knockdown because the punches just go right into the next one with no lag in between (which is not how the A.I. is programmed to throw them). So I am sortof curious too which characters just become stupid hard. I wonder if this works on the GC version of Fight Night Round 3 that has Super Punchout on it. I've not seen it confirmed specifically, but it does work on Nintendo Switch Online's version of SPO as well as on the SNES Classic, so it stands to reason it would work on that if you can put together what buttons are what on a GameCube controller. Only way I imagine it wouldn't is if they only mapped the gameplay specific buttons and so it wouldn't recognize a second controller's commands, but if I had to guess I'd bet it does work

I would love a mod version where we could somehow have the boxers face each other but in a way that puts in some things in order to make it a fun multiplayer game. Also just make a new punch-out!!! Nintendo you cowards. Same with Elite Beat Agents.

Honestly I could see a new Punch Out coming in a couple of years. It's not been very long since Luigi's Mansion 3 and they just put out a new Mario Strikers so I could see Punch Out being Next Level's next project.

I know this is not a perfect indicator, but the Wii version did sell REALLY well, from my understanding, so that probably is a mark in its favor, too.

I got all excited to go upstairs and do these cheats, only to remember that I don't have a 2nd SNES controller.
