NOS4A2 by Joe Hill is pretty fantastic imo. Unique plot and some positively creepy themes presented throughout. If you're not a fan of his father's work, it might not be for you since his voice is very reminiscent of Stephen's.

Depends on what you're into. I could recommend stuff from Wrath James White but he's RRALLY not someone you should start with or even read if you're squeamish at all.
Grady Hendrix is absolutely great, especially HORRORSTOR.
These days I mostly read short fiction collections instead of novels so I could recommend a few people from that as well

Of the stuff I've recently read...
Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke by Eric Larocca is a really good afternoon read.
Woom by Duncan Ralston isn't as good but it is really gross, and also a pretty quick read.
Negative Space by B.R Yeager is a really well written, interesting story, somewhat hamstrung by the fact that in the end it feels like it didn't really go anywhere, but it feels like a book I could read several times and notice new things every time, so it's got that going for it.

I also recomend Wrath James WHite, but yea be warned he is gory. Hell in Succulent Prey there is a part that turned my stomach. Which rarely happens.
No idea on other modern horror writers, mostly cause the ones I enjoy have passed,IE Richard Laymon and Jack Ketchum.
Wait I think Edward Lee is still writing. He is good but again a bit gory. So stuff like Header or Black Train aren't for everyone

I'll recommend my sig if it's okay as it's on topic and I'll add 99.8% done on the sequel, ordered the book cover today, will arrange editing next week, and am hoping for a September or October at the latest release.

Oh man I have a lot to recommend once I wake up tomorrow. Been on a horror novel binge the last couple years and there are some modern standouts.

Laymon, White and Lee I devour every chance I can get hold of one of their books.
PS. Reading and posting here I am left with a strong feeling I have posed this exact thread before.

How are some of the newer novelizations of horror movies? I've got Halloween (2018), but haven't read it so far. I'd expect the quality to be above older novelizations, although maybe not on the level of Jack Martin's / Dennis Etchison's novelizations of Halloween 2 and 3.

So stuff like Header or Black Train aren't for everyone Edward Lee is fantasic... sometimes. when he's on task and focused on the story he's one of the best out there; I feel like a lot of the time he loses track of what he's doing because he wants to focus on being an edgelord tryhard. "Flesh Gothic" is one of the best books he ever did, but "The Big Head" may just be one of the worst horror novels I've ever read (to be fair it's his first, but MAN does it ever show that).
