I've been randomly watching Youtube clips of pro wrestlers corpsing and came across the time that Santino got Cena to completely break just by saying his name in a funny manner. It made me think of how Santino is a wrestler that seems like he could work in basically any era. Just a fun character who can run his mouth and take a fun beating. He'd have to change up some of his moveset in certain eras but I think the character itself would work quite well. The size difference between him and other wrestlers of the past would almost help the character in certain aspects. He might peak as a manager but I think he'd be a great one.
Who are wrestlers that you can think of that weren't at the top of the card, but would be able to find work and get over in almost any era of pro wrestling?

Steve Blackman would fit in perfect anywhere I think as a solid hand to have on a card.

Since the phrase lesser known seems to be quite loose here I’d say Sheamus seems like he’d work in any era. His unique look and size would give him the carnival attraction vibes some stars had in the territory days. He’d arguably fit in better in the Rock N’ Wrestling Era. Probably as a heel for Hogan or the 1B face he played with Cena. New Generation he’d similarly fit in, probably as a face Diesel type that was played up less as a serious badass. Attitude Era I could see Sheamus having a gimmick similar to what he has now. And then the Ruthless Aggression and forward you’d pretty much be able to extend to how his run has worked.

It's very loose. I couldn't think of the best term to use so I felt it best to keep it pretty open. I just didn't want the same names I tend to see whenever a topic like this is brought up. In all honesty I was hoping this would lead to me finding some quality workers across the generations to look up. Sheamus is a good fit. I have always thought he came along in the wrong era. Dude is great, but would probably have been an even bigger star if he was around in the rock n wrestling era/New Generation era. Attitude era I think he would have peaked at around Blackman/Shamrock level which isn't bad at all.

I'm going to cheat and say Goldust. He actually has fit into every era since the late 80's. And with his size, ability, and look he'd have fit in well before that pretty easily.

The foreign monster heel is gonna work in any era. Put someone like… Kozlov or Rusev in the Hulkamania era and he’s getting a main event match with Hogan at Summerslam.

I don’t know about great but Big Vis would be a novelty in any era for sure.
