Batista v Umaga for Wrestlemania 24. There was clearly no more thought put into it than “damn, everyone else is busy, who can we feed to Batista at Wrestlemania?” Billing it as a battle for brand supremacy was completely meaningless too.
Apparently Batista was pissed about it too and felt he should have been higher on the card. He completely half-assed the whole thing and it was one of the worst matches on the show.

Didn't Repo Man and Macho Man feud over Savage's reposseessed hat? Your former two time WWF champion had to finance a hat. And missed payments. I know business was down but yikes.

WCW Hummer storyline in the summer of 1999 where we never really find out who was driving the hummer. I believe it was suggested it was Bischoff in 2000 during the Kidman/Hogan feud, but it's basically forgotten about after July. It was probably not a bright idea to start the angle six days before a PPV and within 45-minutes they had to say that Nash was fine in order for people to buy the PPV.

I'm not exactly sure that a group based on post-Apartheid paramilitary gangs would have been a good fit in the 80s Not to mention nobody(at least outside of South Africa) would get it, they would just dismiss it as a generic military gimmick. What's ironic about this is the only real South African in the group was The Commandant(played by actor Robin Smith) who was then replaced by The Jackyl since they needed somebody who can physically take bumps(even though he rarely ever had matches in the WWF). So yeah, pointless would be the best way to describe it. If it had been around in the ‘80s, Colonel DeBeers would have been the leader by default.

Surely it's the Higher Power angle? The reveal rendered months of matches and storytelling utterly redundant.

Shout out to Gargano / Ciampa going on for so long and being bungled so badly that it started out with cementing Gargano as a beloved mega face and by the time it was over they had to turn him heel twice to salvage him.

People can, understandably in some cases, shit on a lot of slow burn angles in AEW or other places, but I feel like Gargano/Ciampa is only topped by Eric Young vs Robert Roode in terms of "everyone involved is fine, but why the f*** are we STILL doing this long after everyone wants to see it anymore?" for the modern era. Obviously, Jimmy Valiant vs the Paul Jones Army is probably the all-time winner.

John Cena v Big Show in 2012. It was very clearly just filler to pass time until Raw 1000 when they would kick off the Rock/Punk stuff.
CM Punk v Ryback/Curtis Axel in 2013. At most Punk should have beaten them on TV to get to Lesnar but they did it backwards. They had the Lesnar match first then spent months on the midcarders. Seriously, Punk v these goofs took up THREE PPVs and the matches were interminable.
The Fiend v The Miz in 2019. The Fiend was so overpowered it was difficult to make anyone seem like a credible threat to him so choosing babyface Miz as his first feud after winning the title was certainly a choice. Then at the PPV he didn't even wrestle as Fiend but as regular Bray, completely deflating the crowd.

Obviously, Jimmy Valiant vs the Paul Jones Army is probably the all-time winner. The brilliant non sanctioned match they had at Takeover: New Orleans was the natural end point for the feud, but I guess they thought since it was so well received they want to milk the feud for all it was worth. All though to be fair Ciampa's neck injury really messed up what would have been the other best and logical end point for the feud where Gargano would not only have finally slayed his demon but also got his first NXT title in the process.

Jerry Lawler vs Michael Cole, the only positive from this was anal bleeding in theory, the idea of Jerry Lawler just shutting Cole up once and for all was a pretty striaghtforward feud with a real purpose because Cole really was just that obnoxious. in practice, I have no idea who this feud was supposed to entertain.

Vince The Mania match should have been: Cole slaps Lawler. Jerry punches him down. Swagger tries to interfere, Austin hits him with the Stunner. Jerry pulls down the strap, Piledriver. 1, 2, 3! That's it.

Vince Cole won the feud too.... there's no way Lawler, even if he didn't have a heart attack, could come back after anal bleeding and losing at Wrestlemania....

Lawler ultimately won, they did a Kiss My Foot match at Over the Limit. I have no earthly idea why this feud had to last for six months but it did. Then they did another match a year later for some reason.
