Legit was gonna add a video of the Steiners if it wasn't so hard on mobile. Dudes got an extra payday to go above and beyond to put new talent over, if that means getting the shit kicked out of you or your head shaded or having a snake slither around you I'm reminded of Cornette saying how the Midnight Express wouldn't murder jobbers or anything, but they'd try to find out what they were able to do, how much experience they had, stuff like that, and work with them, but that at the end of the day, the point of the match was for the name talent to look good. Some guys definitely didn't leave that up to chance. Still, there's a difference between some stiff strikes and dropping people on their head, and the former is leagues more justifiable. Not to justify it, but some of those enhancement guys Crockett used were REALLY bad. I remember watching Road Warrior matches where they attempted to work with them at first, but their opponents were screwing up everything. Well the business was different back then, kayfabe was important, and unlike Vince they didn’t have the time or money to do a second take. So they would pivot and get their stuff in, no matter what it took. I don’t condone it, but part of the blame for the jobbers getting roughed up has to go to the promoters too. If you’re gonna give star guys one two minute match every week or two to get their stuff over on TV, at least make sure they’re working with guys who know what the hell they’re doing.

A few comments in the video suggest the jobber was disrespectful (some say racist) to Mr. Fuji in the back and this was Yoko's "receipt" to him.

In addition to all that, Bret wrote in his autobiography that Koko was a pretty well-liked guy backstage. Crushing a popular veteran a few months into your run isn’t the smartest business decision. Also Koko was anotheer legit tough guy. Think it was Corny but might have been Dutch mantell told a story about Koko and Steve Kearn getting into a fight backstage at Memphis. Kearn was known for being a legit bad ass. But Koko took him to the ground pinned him down using his legs and beat Steve in the face till 5 of the other guys got Koko off him. I think I've seen a video of a match where one jobber made some racist remarks to Koko in the back, only for Koko to give him a full receipt for them in the ring.

Koko has said that he told the guy he was going to be rough, and the guy okayed it. Still, that smack to the face as he was pinning him sure was something. Importantly, though, he still did the brainbuster safely. I imagine Masked Patriot felt that match for a few days, but he didn't f*** with his livelihood.

I've just checked and I don't think that was the match I was thinking about. I recall watching another one with someone I thought was Koko beating the crap out of a jobber. I'll have to double check.
