So some of you may have seen some posts I made in other threads about a piece of possible lost media I found. Basically somebody on the Lost Media Wiki said that the bulk of the old WB Network sitcom Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher was no where to be found on the internet. I had an episode sitting on a VHS tape and, after finally tracking down a video capture device, uploaded that episode to YouTube on Friday. Today I discover that someone else has uploaded the same episode, but it's blatantly obvious that its a rip of my video. The graininess, the bounciness from an old VHS tape, it's identical to mine, all they did was edit out the commercials.
So for any other YouTubers out there, is this common? Does this happen a lot? I mean, I don't think there's anything I can do about it. Legally it was probably dodgy for me to upload it in the first place. What really bothers me is his video has 3800 views and 84 thumbs up, while mine has 35 views and 2 thumbs up (one of them from a friend I sent the video to).

While you should really get credit, I guess with things like lost media, the instant reaction of "get another copy of this uploaded stat in case that gets taken down" isn't necessarily a bad one.

Video theft is actually pretty common on Youtube. A few of my videos were stolen. I made Gmod videos such as "Heavy is Dad" and "Sandvich is a Damn Good Cop". You could try to report it, but I'm not sure on what grounds considering the material is owned by someone else anyway. Still, seeing someone else benefiting from your hard work with no real effort f***ing sucks. I know. Oh God, do I know.
Edit: Maybe you should try to let the Lost Media Wiki know that you uploaded the episode first.
