Does anyone remember WWF Super Astros? It was a show featuring various lucha guys (along with guys like Kaientai, The Hardyz, I think even Val Venis made an appearance) the WWF had under contract that aired on Univision around 98-99. I remember watching it, even though I only know high school level spanish, and it was pretty different than the actual WWF shows. I think they made an error having the matches taped before RAW though, since most of these guys were unknown to your average Attitude era fan, there was pretty much no reaction and they had to pipe in crowd noise. Would have been better if they had taped it in Mexico or somewhere where those guys were more well-known.

I imagine just like today it was an issue of cost. Sending a few guys out before Raw cost almost nothing. Whereas filming a whole show in Mexico would cost a bundle even if the quality was below the WWF’s standards for Raw.

Giant Silva had his only WWF televised singles match on a Super Astros episode.
It was bad.

Cant believe I didn't see this.Back when it was airing I was always checking every channel I got for wrestling and I know I got Univision.
Wasn't until sumguy I was tape trading with said he had "Some kind of WWF Lucha show" that I learned it existed.

Watched it pretty often. Always assumed Val made an appearance because he was Steele in Mexico right before signing with the company.

Looked up the entire results list, kind of interesting El Hijo Del Santo had a WWE run even if it was on a show hardly anyone watched

I remember how Max Mini was Mini Max on this show. And he wanted to go out with Chyna.
The Spanish names for the other stars..."La Roca"...

I remember my Univision affiliate aired this at 11:30 a.m. on Sundays. I watched this whenever I could. It was interesting to see Los Boricuas being featured under different characters. They were also part of the main event program for that show. There was even a reunion for that group with Savio Vega being somewhat of a manager (because he was injured at that time).

They taped matches for Super Astros before a RAW I went to in 1999. I remember someone's music hit and the guy in front of me was like "who the hell is this?". Then it was a dwarf and all the sudden he got a huge pop.

Of the few clips I've seen, it's insane this show aired at the same time as everything else in Attitude Era.
It's almost like it happened in another universe.

The weirder part he came out in full Oddities attire and theme. The match happened in July 4th in 99. All the other members where released in Feb of 99.

I remember the minis having a hardcore match with Al Snow where they wailed on him with miniature versions of all the usual weapons, and it culminated in them pinching his nipples with salad tongs.
I am not stoned, it happened!

Whereas filming a whole show in Mexico would cost a bundle even if the quality was below the WWF’s standards for Raw. Unlike WCW around the time who seemingly had different locations, or at least full sets for Nitro, Thunder, Saturday Night, Pro, etc. It looked cool, giving all the shows some uniqueness, but must have cost a bomb. As for Super Astros. Never saw it at the time. I don't believe it was available in the UK, but I could be wrong.
