WCW Monday Nitro premiered at the Mall of America on TNT. Which is famous for Lex Luger showing up 24 hours after wrestling for WWF. I watched it live and lost my shit when Luger came out. Who else here watched it live? fb.watch/fkQh1kI0um/

Who else here watched it live? fb.watch/fkQh1kI0um/Watched it live. The first Nitro was a big deal at the time, and capping it off with Luger was such a hook. Everyone at the time thought we'd get Luger vs. Hogan but that didn't happen for a long while. One of the things I miss about WCW was the events in weird settings. On a beach or in the middle of a mall or in the middle of a biker rally or with the ring surrounded by pools with Sting entering via helicopter. They really thought outside the box.

I watched it live. Still have my original VHS recording of it. With the Pillman vs Liger opener, being in the Mall of America and Luger's debut it felt MASSIVE. There were no squash matches between Johnny B Badd and the Gambler as we'd grown accustomed to seeing on most WCW shows up to then. This was an all killer/no filler WCW. People might laugh at this comment now, but people forget that in addition to Luger, Michael Wallstreet also debuted on the first Nitro with a taped backstage interview. Rotunda had just been seen on Raw a few weeks before this. Obviously he did nothing of note during this WCW run but the fact that WCW debuted TWO guys that had just been on WWF TV within the last few weeks made it feel like the momentum was shifting.
