Geez, the last two years seemed to hit him, his family, and his friends very hard. Combine all of that with the drama his wife went through with WWE, his own release, then getting to AEW and having what were no doubt thought out angles he wanted to do messed with by a lot of factors that were largely out of his control (injuries, opponents missing time thanks to injuries or travel issues, the roster growing and growing and potentially abridging some plans, etc.); lots of factors that could play into things, and sadly a lot of which will be recklessly speculated on.
Knowing when to step away is a tough thing to do, but necessary.

It's good to hear this all from Tommy's figurative mouth. Good luck, man. Wishing the best for you.

I mean, yeah, he probably would be, but if he's taking time to himself, it is kind of a moot point, anyway. He should be focusing on himself right now and recuperating. No one needs a repeat of Kurt Angle going to TNA at like the worst possible time in his personal life to be pulling that shit.

Ugh, of course there are people using his statement as fodder for the WWE/AEW online SCRUMS.
Like, people are reading "this being the tip of the iceberg and with the combination of the promises in my professional field that were not upheld which resulted as a combination of all of these" and reading that as "Tony didn't give him the push he wanted" or something about WWE or whatever, when what he wrote here is that DUE TO being hurt and going through these different kinds of traumas he hasn't been able to see "promises" from his professional life fulfilled.
Let the man get well in peace, internet, for @#$%'s sake. Apparently there's also the usual loser brigades trying to say nonsense like "Zelina must be cheating on him and they're on the rocks, that's why he's having issues!" when she was there at his last indie show supporting him. People who live for drama on this level desperately need a reassessment of their life's priorities.

Hope dude gets everything in order. He is a fantastic talent and I hope he finds success wherever he goes next, whether it be AEW, WWE, Japan or away from wrestling altogether.

Malakai Black: "I'm a private person, here's all I want to be known about the situation. Stop speculating about things."
Some 'fans' online: immediately start speculating and turn it into an AEW vs. WWE thing

He wants privacy, he's stated he's fine, and just wants some time.
That's the beginning, middle, and end of all I really care about.
Using it in interpromotional horseshit between two billion dollar plus companies that don't care about you individually is just weird.

Everyone saying after this going "2023 Royal Rumble confirmed." Or WWE return. Like it sad really when someone is dealing with stuff and all they want to do is making this tribal WWE vs. AEW deal. I'm like let the guy have his peace. People live also for wanting AEW to fail and laugh at everything they do.

Funny that this comes out not even a day after Malakai says "if it didn't come from me, it didn't happen." Having said that, if Malakai does want to go back to WWE once he's sorted his own stuff out, he's more than welcome to. I, selfishly, will be sad that I won't get to see him anymore but it is what it is.

And I can guarantee that alot of those same WWE stans who now want him back in WWE, were trashing him and saying that he sucked when he went to AEW. These WWE stans aren't fans of wrestling; they are fans of WWE only. And if a wrestler isn't in WWE, they are irrelevant to them. With WWE stans, it's all about supporting the brand. And the wrestlers who work there are nameless, faceless cogs who are just there to keep the WWE machine going.

To be fair, Malakai's statement absolutely read to me like "im exhausted, but also I feel like promises weren't delivered on and I'm wasting my time, so I'm stepping back".
A short, terse "I'm taking time off for mental and physical issues, I will be back at some point, please do not speculate any further" would've been fine.
The more you say, the more people are going to read into it.

The more you say, the more people are going to read into it. Yeah there seemed to be a little bit of both in his statement. He also mentioned being upset that his private conversations about his mental health were leaked out. Apart from his mental health which obviously takes precedence over anything else, I’d guess he was bummed about Vince’s lack of usage of him and sudden release and then also with Khan to some extent, and it wouldn’t be shocking if he wanted to be back with Triple H (and his wife) in WWE.
