Anyone who thinks there wouldn’t be a pop forgets the long list of wrestlers who have done similar or worse than Punk who are or were treated like gods by live crowds.

I mean he’ll probably still get a pop, but probably not as big as he normally would and there’s no real reason to give him the opportunity IMO. He was headed rapidly to the point of diminishing returns as it was. 🤷🏻♂️

I'm sure he'd get a return pop, even Del Rio had got them.
But long-term? So much of his act relied on that bond with the crowd, the voice of the voiceless, the idea he's (one of) the best in the world. The trust that investing in whatever he's doing will have a payoff. Even as a heel that didn't change much.
That aura might be irreparably damaged, he can't say drop Statlander or Silver's name in a promo as people that deserve better without it sounding hollow. The idea he has the right to critise anyone else like he did Cena or Miz is now ridiculous. He can't go anti-authority against the elite because most of the crowd wouldn't side with him. He's a rebel without a cause.
The weird angle with Mox was bad before the muffins were out. He's already getting boos or mixed reactions even in Chicago. It's harsh but why invest in what he's doing if it feels he could be gone at any moment, through injury, walking out or getting in trouble again.
Basically Hangman can do his entire act better. He had the bond. He can stick up for people. If he wanted he could use more legit grievances that would resonate (ie those that were in aew through the pandemic deserve more). He's in his in-ring prime.
On the flipside until his fued with MJF ended he was doing great. He has the creative mind to turn things around but will it actually be entertaining getting there? Will people be willing to give it a chance or would they rather someone else got that time?

No, give the spotlight to people who actually deserve it.

I hope he's well and is able to find peace, but I don't need to ever see him in wrestling again.

Six months is a long time away. I think the time away will make fans kind of forget this whole thing and he'll get cheered. If he came back last night or any time in the next few weeks, then the reactions would probably be more negative.

People act like he killed a dog on TV or some shit. I mean there been worst things that happened that what he did and those guys got forgiven and hell some people forgiven like short period of time. Vince McMahon still beloved by fans after all the shit he has done which was worst than Punk outburst. Austin did worst and he still a top draw. Jeff Hardy burned fans more than anybody and yet still always get big pops. Not sure now but in the pass it happened. 6 Months from now is a long time. Most people would forgotten it if the Elite where back before him. Punk does need to work on things and give apologies to people and mean it and stick to it. I don't know if that will happen because Punk tends to hold on to things. The comments I've seen have been a little extreme on where Punk stands and what he did. Was he wrong? 100%. But is he at black ball levels? No.

I don't think Punk will be able to be the big babyface, "voice of the voiceless," cult hero again, but give it six months and I'm sure he'd be welcomed back. If everyone in AEW is able to smooth things over and Punk comes back in a better frame of mind again, I don't see why not. There's even more money to be made from Punk vs. Omega, now.
But, this is CM Punk. Noted grudge holder. I think the problem will be him, more than the fans.

He's one of my all time favorites but if every return he has is going to be punctuated by high school drama and/or him immediately getting injured again, I'd be happier if he just retired and stayed that way.

Wed be fooling ourselves if Punk didn't get a great reaction. A lot of this stuff behind the scenes nobody really cares about. Its why there's a disconnect sometimes between our reactions and the live crowd.

He'd get a pop in 6 months. Wrestling fans forgive everyone and they'll cheer for him. I don't ever care to see him wrestle again though. He's just not that entertaining to me at this point. I was in Boston at Raw years ago when he called Cena the Yankees. Well, at this point Punk has become what he always hated, the older guy who comes in, upsets the locker room, takes the top title, and never puts over the homegrown talent.
AEW was best when they were growing with the Elite, Mox, Jericho, Sammy, Darby, etc. Taking all the WWE guys and pushing them is what we all feared would happen and it's kind of what's happening now. Take a couple, like Mox or Miro to be in the upper card, a guy like Jericho to be a veteran leader and familiar face, that's great. You don't need everyone though.
Punk just isn't necessary. Bryan could be in the Punk role right now and he'd be doing it way better. He's more entertaining in the ring, he can cut promos, he's well-liked, he doesn't hold grudges, and he's one of the most over wrestlers on the planet. Just give Bryan a huge push and let him do his thing.
And to make a last point, Punk and Jeff Hardy are not equivalent cases. People will always have more sympathy for people who have drug issues than they do for the holier than thou types who are giant assholes and hold grudges over petty things. Look at the people Punk doesn't seem to like: Colt, Cena, Miz, etc are all guys that almost no one ever says bad things about other than Punk. It's hard to think he's a great guy when the list of people he hates are constantly brought up as some of the nicest guys in the business. Miz is out there putting over Logan Paul while Punk is burying the entire AEW locker room.

Assuming the company makes it that far, They'll pop for him I suppose.
But he isn't coming back. He'll leave just like Malakai, Bucks, Omega, and soon after MJF; Go to the E and make them a boatload of money.

Anyone who thinks there wouldn’t be a pop forgets the long list of wrestlers who have done similar or worse than Punk who are or were treated like gods by live crowds. I agree, but I think it would take a lot more time than 6 months if he's coming back to AEW. If he comes back in less than a year, this will all be fresh. And I think AEW's fanbase, generally, feels incredibly slighted by him. I know I do. If he showed up in WWE tomorrow the pop would be insane, just because of how shocking it would be.

It wasn't like that was Chicago or Philly or something. I agree there's often a disconnect between the internet and the fanbase at large (Scorpio Sky and Britt Baker being AEW's two biggest examples), but I'm not so sure on this.

Well, I’d say he needs a clean slate and a sincere apology if he’s ever going to be fully trusted again. He’s still one of my favorite wrestlers and I’m generally a forgiving person. So if he comes back at some point, I’ll probably not worry about it too much. But he needs to stay away for awhile. AEW has enough issues and they don’t need a toxic CM Punk.

They'll pop, and in Chicago, he'll be treated like a God, but once you punch down, you stop being the voice of the voiceless.

Hell, we may even get Death Triangle vs. The Elite at Grand Slam, who freaking knows. The Elite aren't leaving All Elite Wrestling anytime soon unless they stabbed somebody.
