Anyone who thinks there wouldn’t be a pop forgets the long list of wrestlers who have done similar or worse than Punk who are or were treated like gods by live crowds. I think there's a difference in this case because of Punk's onscreen character. Jeff Hardy might be seen as a reckless idiot irl, but doesn't pretend not to be on screen. There's no disconnect there. Also I don't you can underestimate how a small section of fans turning against someone for any reason can influence a larger number. Look at Cody, started with a few turning against him and it grew each week. But people cheered Vince so who knows.

Assuming the company makes it that far, They'll pop for him I suppose. But he isn't coming back. He'll leave just like Malakai, Bucks, Omega, and soon after MJF; Go to the E and make them a boatload of money. The company is not going under in 6 months, what the heck are you on about.

The Bucks and Omega will be back in like 2-3 weeks. Hell, we may even get Death Triangle vs. The Elite at Grand Slam, who freaking knows. The Elite aren't leaving All Elite Wrestling anytime soon unless they stabbed somebody. I'll never understand this idea that everyone will go to WWE, #1 not everyone wants to work there, #2 even they don't have enough TV time for everyone to get booked properly...#3 I can' t wait till this honeymoon is over and people stop acting like Triple H is gods gift to wrestling booking

I just think I'm ready for people to be like "hey, cool! wrestling in general is pretty good now." Like WWE's got some stuff for everybody, AEW's got some stuff for everybody. We're in a pretty good spot.

I'm having trouble recommending wrestling right now because my take is more, "I dunno, this is the one I watch but I don't think you can go wrong, follow your bliss."

We're in a pretty good spot. That'd be great too, I think it's just WWE conditioned everyone there is 1 game in town so if anyone is any good and doesn't work there, there are fans that basically pine for them to go there. A lot of times it comes down to "I don't want to watch 2 promotions" or "I don't have that kind of time" and usually for fans like that WWE is what they'll choose to watch.

Omega, Bucks, Malakai, Punk, MJF all gone. That's a massive amount of money-making/ratings-drawing stars gone. Not to mention every champion they crown gets injured immediately.

MJF returned at All Out, the Bucks and Omega will probably be back within the next month. AEW was doing fine before Punk, and it will do fine without him. Talk of AEW going under because Punk took his career behind the barn and put a bullet behind its ear is absolutely f***ing stupid.

Where in the world are you getting that Omega, the Bucks, and MJF are all gone? MJF is going to be around for at least two more years, and has pretty clearly worked out a lot of his issues with the company. Omega and the Bucks are suspended pending an investigation primarily for the purpose of avoiding the appearance of preferential treatment in the very likely event a lawsuit gets filed if/when Punk and Steel are fired, but there's really been no suggestion they're gone for good. I like Malakai as much as the next guy, but he wasn't a main eventer in WWE, he wasn't a main eventer in AEW, and he's apparently got a degenerative back condition that makes it difficult for him to work the day-to-day wrestling grind. AEW grew and thrived before he was there, and it ought to continue to do so after he's gone. And that's assuming he's completely gone and not just taking a sabbatical. I get that this has been a tumultuous period for AEW, but if last night's Dynamite was any indication, the beat will keep on rolling. And it's not as if, even in the worst case scenario, AEW doesn't still have established industry stars (Jericho, Moxley, Bryan, Miro, Christian, Claudio, Joe), guys it has, itself, established as stars over the course of the last three years (Cassidy, Jungle Boy, Lucha Bros, Hangman), and an up and coming crew of exciting young guys on the cusp of breaking out (DG, Yuta, Dante, HOOK). AEW had built an insanely deep roster. It can and will survive this turmoil.

We've seen TNA/Impact go through the lowest, including a drugged Jeff Hardy ruining a main event. If that hasn't killed Impact, this probably won't kill AEW.

He’d sure as shit have to trade those muffins for the humblest of pies.
I am still in shock this is how his AEW return ends.

He would get a massive pop.
Don't confuse online fans in a relatively small ecosystem to how a live audience will respond, especially at a point in time that's far away from a theoretical comeback.
Personally I'm conflicted. I still really enjoy CM Punk the pro wrestler. But this latest off the rails thing...ugh, it's hard for me to separate the character from the man at this point.

Honestly, I just watch wrestling as a TV show, and just like I wouldn't care if the stars of Better Call Saul don't like each other, I also don't care if Punk and The Bucks like each other. So I'd love him to come back, and preferable as a heel as that's when I find him the most entertaining
Heel Punk and condescending Danielson were pure TV gold

What are you guys talking about, Hardcore Holly returned and All Out and opened this past Dynamite. While MJF, Omega, and The Bucks all debuted on Raw this past Monday. AEW is canceled by tomorrow at noon.

For his own personal sanity, I hope he stays far away from wrestling. Stay home, bang AJ (not to be crass), and enjoy life outside of wrestling
If he has a comfortable nest egg, then why drag yourself to a job that causes nothing but stress and makes you lash out at others?
