The Wrestlemania 13 match is still considered by many the best Wrestlemania match of all-time.
If this match happened with a star active today, who would be the closest fit to Austin in this match in 2022 working with Bret?
Which star from today would be able to bleed buckets, working Austin style, while getting over with the crowd and being the one to pass out to the sharpshooter?
Moxley? Rollins? Cody? Punk? Page? Omega?

Moxley feels like the co-p-out answer, but I think it's got to be Moxley. So much of what makes that match great is the story and the double turn, and Moxley is the only guy I can think of who hits the same general chords in heel and face mode to really sell that kind of reversal. Kenny's identity is wrapped up in his savant-like workrate, Bret has no reason to be mad at him. Rollins is typically too vile a heel for a simple double turn to redeem him. I don't buy Cody can do a heel-to-babyface transition that way. Punk's in that same kind of heel work as Seth vein where I think his words are too strong for him to turn off the weight of a single match alone. Page as a heel hasn't impressed me enough to think he can pull off his half of the bargain coming in playing that angle.

Replicating this match in this day and age would be difficult because part of the magic from 1997 came from the changing of the times. The double turn reflected society moving on from the white-meat babyface and embracing the antihero. Add to that people were relatively unfamiliar with Steve Austin at that point even with his work in WCW. Basically, it was the first time people got to see what he's capable of doing. Moxley is established and already has fans. If anything, he would need to be the face who turns heel.

Anyone who tries to replicated double turn today will be setup for a failure. I don't see a single supercool heel today like Nash and Austin were back in the day. Esepcially not an up n coming superstar who is rising to his stardome. Last time someone had a chance to do something like this was WWE with Cena vs any heel but they opted not to turn him heel.
