Feels like I haven't had one done like that since I was a kid.

Only ever got those microwave bags.
Remember my parents popping them with the stove, and we had an automatic pop corn maker too.
Jiffy Pop is not and don’t think was ever a thing here in Australia. Well I don’t remember any pop corn being sold in a one use disposable pan.

I have fond memories of Saturday nights, making popcorn on the stove top, in a giant saucepan, with real oil, shaking the pan back and forth over the burner with sparks flying all over the place, then melting real butter and pouring it over the popcorn, then planting in front of the TV to watch hockey and Monty Python's Flying Circus, and whatever else was on.
The good old days...

It was probably about twenty years ago when the wife and I bought a hot air popcorn popper. We filled it up and turned it on…and it started launching popcorn all over the kitchen. We put a bowl where the popcorn was supposed to come out but either unpopped kernels would launch out and ricochet off the bowl with a loud “TING!!” or popped kernels would shoot into the bowl and immediately get blown out onto the floor by the hot air. We couldn’t stop laughing as our floor became covered in popcorn. We packed it up the next day and took it back to the store.
Now we either use microwave bags or we also have a Presto microwave popper that works really well.

I have one of these things where you cook it on a stove or open fire and have to keep turning a crank so the corn doesn't burn before popping. I use it when camping but otherwise just use microwave bags.

I'll cut open the bags and make it in a pot sometimes. Easier to add extra salt and butter that way.

Been considering getting a popper given that it's a far healthier option and a lot of time microwave popcorn is super bland by comparison.

We used to use air poppers a lot back in the day until we figured out that we used MORE oil/salt/butter making it taste good than if we just cooked it in the oil/flavacol mix in the whirlypop pan on the stove.

I have an air popper, I've always liked using it.
I'm also someone who's not big on overly buttered popcorn, so having it default to being lighter and just adding a bit here and there works better for me.

My grandparents used to have one. I recently helped clean out their place, grandma has passed away, grandpa isn’t coming out of the old folks home. Considering I threw shit away from at least the 40’s, I wonder what happened to it? Something must have, because they kept f***ing everything. When they moved into this place, grandma finally tossed the wool she shorn off a sheep she had when she was a little girl. She was like 80 when this happened.

Air popped popcorn's good, but I still usually just get the microwavable bags. I may try to get into it, though, particularly if I feel like trying stuff like heirloom popcorn out.
I do love buttered popcorn, or kettle corn, stuff like that, but honestly, regular popcorn with a little salt and pepper can be nice, too. Though, if you have no butter, it isn't going to adhere that well, so really, still worth using a little bit.

When I see Jiffy Pop being used in media like Scream and The Simpsons.. I thought what’s the point of that? Why go to trouble of disposable pan packaging.
But I realise they probably made for open camp fires where a microwave or stove top would be unavailable. Something for the little scouts.
