www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1PsCwg6w_QFrom WCW Saturday Night in May 1992. This was during a phase on Saturday Night where they were having celebrities come in to host the show with JR. It didn't last long probably due to segments like this. JR has said on his podcast that he hated doing these. I love that Randy's first question is "why did you leave the dubya dubya ef?". Rude seems genuinely taken aback probably thinking to himself "did anyone smarten this guy up?". Although to his credit he able to roll with it pretty well.

I misread that as Randy Orton. Make that two of us.
Would not be even that strange, perhaps he might have interviewed Rick Rude as a part of a school project.

Naturally I lost my s*** when that happened. As it was very rare that companies acknowledged companies. If anything it was only seen on Gordon Solie's Wrestling News Network on the Power Hour, and the GWF Newsroom segments on Global TV.
It was a shoot, then?

It would've been funnier if he really went all out in keeping continuity between the two promotions and was like "Well ya know Randy it goes like this. I told it the way that it is and called the Big Boss Man's mother a sweat hog and slimy swamp sow and that senile idiot Jack Tunney indefinitely suspended me. So I packed my bags and headed to greener pastures". Instead he went with the I was disgruntled because I wasn't getting World Title shots even though I was #1 Contender due to being the IC Champion even though WWF never went by that rule. And even WCW while had top ten rankings and the US CHampion was always ranked #1 Contender I can't recall the US Champion ever fighting the World Champion for the title. I guess it possibly does confirm though that Rude was an avid reader of the PWI Magazines. In kayfabe I like to picture him looking at the back pages where the rankings were in of one of their magazines in some grocery store sometime in June 1989 and going into a rage that he wasn't getting World Title shots against Hogan.

Didn't get them as IC champ, but it's not like he didn't get a spring and summer full of Warrior matches. The other thing is, I still remember this segment for leading to female plants in the audience claiming they had affairs with Ricky Steamboat, complete with censored "slut" utterances.

Rick Rude was a perfect fit for 1989s and 1990 WWF BUT he was also a perfect fit for early 90s WCW.

Was this the Bill Watts era? I remember in a WCW magazine after he took over he did an interview where he talked about how the Steiner’s didn’t renew and went to the WWF and how he was going to offer Mondo Kleen(Damian Demento) X amount of $$ but the WWF offered more and then basically said that he wasn’t worth the money, lol
There was a weird spell where they were outright mentioning WWF and it’s wrestlers

US champ, Lex Luger, was constantly fighting Ric Flair for the World belt. True. However even that wasn't planned. Only reason that happened was because Sting who supposed to be feuding with Flair that whole stretch got injured which forced them to turn Luger face and take his spot since they literally had no other options as their roster depth was horrible at that point. NORMAN THE LUNATIC was their number 2 singles face before they switched Luger back which really how hurting they were for faces.

Allen Frey. So it was either right at the end of Frey's run or right at the beginning of Watts. Since this was likely taped which means it actually probably took place in April sometime then I would guess it was probably the former.

The Rude example I think indeed was still Frey, though. And doing some looking online, it seems that Watts first appears on TV a month later. Before this, you did get some WWF references on the Power Hour, like I said, with Solie's wrestling news reports. Think those fizzled out by 1990 or so, no? But if you watched WCW Pro, there were many references to the WWF from time to time. I don't know if all the Pro telecasts were like the New York one, but that version had JR mentioning things like "some people wonder what would happen if Lex Luger (then WCW champ) wrestled Hulk Hogan (then WWF champ)!" Paul E. mocking Ric Flair for the real world champion bit too.
