So was bored the other day and watched some episodes of "WWE Old School" and there's an episode from MSG with Hogan vs Sarge in a "Desert Storm" match.
What a f***ing match! Like it's such a fun wild brawl. Completely blows the WM7 match out of the water.
Was curious if anyone has seen this match and thier thoughts.

I've heard of it, but never seen it. If it's as good as you say, I'll have to track it down.

I get that they tried to keep WM fairly "pure", but yeah, that'd have probably been the way to go to make the match what it could have been to begin with. Slaughter's boot camp matches were one of the things that made him a star in the first place, it could have hidden a lot of his weaknesses at this stage.

Yea, it's just a fun, insane brawl, plays to both guys strengths and is just amazing. Like, it's a hidden gem for sure.

I saw one years ago on a WWF tape. What I mainly recall is The Anvil on commentary saying “Give him the booty!!!” When Hogan hits Slaughter with his Saddam Huessin gifted boot.

I feel like everyone forgets that the Hogan vs. Slaughter matches were actually good because the storyline was such exploitive trash.

I always thought the Wrestlemania match was better than it could have been expected to be at the time. They just seemed to work really well together.
I just wish Sarge had been in more of his original heel gimmick instead of the Iraqi sympathizer crap.

I always misremember this match as the main event of Wrestlemania 7. It's like my brain just automatically substitutes it because it's just leaps and bounds better.

I feel like everyone forgets that the Hogan vs. Slaughter matches were actually good because the storyline was such exploitive trash. I think some of it is just that Sarge's regular matches were pretty hit and miss at the time, often miss, but you put Slaughter in any kind of boot camp or equivalent match, and he just excels. Similarly, he did a match, maybe it was in Japan for WWF's partnership they had for a bit, where Warrior got to get revenge on Slaughter, and he made Warrior look like a million bucks, flying around and selling his ass off for him.

I just wish Sarge had been in more of his original heel gimmick instead of the Iraqi sympathizer crap. His return in 1990 started that way. He was just a pissed off Cold Warrior that couldn’t stomach being nice with the Russkies after all those years. That was a perfectly fine heel turn and “brutal, crazed army guy living in the past” would have worked fine as a foil for Hogan and Warrior. His promo before the Rumble match (“Your days are no longer numbered! Your hours are no longer numbered! Your SECONDS are numbered!”) is fantastic over-the-top heeling. Involving the war just turned it all crummy.

I’ve always been a fan of the Sarge because he puts his heart and soul into it. He’s an over the top batshit crazy character no matter whether face or heel. And yes l remember this match vividly because Slaughter was kicking Hogan’s ass!

Slaughter was 100% one of those guys who I only caught the tail end of his career in real time, so I didn't appreciate how great he was until I saw his 79-84 run.
