Please don't take this time for granted. Just take a moment to enjoy professional wrestling everyone. After growing up in the Monday Night Wars and then having a 20 year void in competition and compelling new innovations, I just can't say how much fun I am having watching wrestling right now. From the White Rabbit, to Mox's redemption, to the Punk/Elite drama and people like MJF. I love it all.

I'll say this much. Even with frustrations with some things, overall, it's an invigorating time to be following wrestling. Shit's nuts.

There's 10 promotions I've watched more than once this year and a few others I've seen the odd bit of. There's others I'd like to add to that list too and I'll be introduced to Dragongate soon.
Its crazy, more easily accessible good wrestling than ever.
It's cool they often crossover too. The Aew, tjpw, EVE triangle being particularly welcome, having representives from those three plus freelancers like Aja Kong and Max the Impaler on one show is so fun especially after all the travel restrictions. Mutoh's retirement is set to be a multi promotional event too. Will be fun if they become more common.

Still not as good as 2005 for me.

2001 for me. But it can’t be overstated how cool it is to have so many options.

Nothing is making me want to watch wrestling consistently the way I did from 1999-2002, or even 2010-2012. I enjoy following wrestling through these forums and I still enjoy a lot of wrestling related media, like video games, as well as watching older matches, but it's the contemporary in ring product that totally loses me.

I've said it before and I'll say it now. This may be the best time to be a wrestling fan. A proper Big Two, weird newz, and nearly free access to almost any wrestling you could want.

Best it’s been to me since 2016. But I don’t think anything will beat 2002-2007 for me.

If I was 11, 12, 13 years old now, I'd be in wrestling heaven. (That was my ages in 1985-87.)
I follow everything, even if I don't watch it all.

I turned 37 a couple weeks ago and I think this is the most fun it's ever been. Two companies with major TV deals, at least two more with wide North American exposure who can draw a crowd, and a red hot indie scene.
So much of the stuff my friends and I talked about happening back in the day is now a weekly occurrence, and if you've got the means you can watch it all live via streaming services.
WWE is the odd man out in terms of refusing to acknowledge competition exists and even there cracks are forming.
I'm excited for where the industry goes in the next few years.

If there were a textbook on wrestling history, 2022 would have its own chapter.
One of the wildest years in wrestling I can ever remember.

I’m don’t know about 98… but I would say 2004-2006 where WWE was having a ruthless aggression resurgence and ROH and Impact were hot as f***.
Pro wrestling (and this board) got me through the pandemic in 20/21 Wrestling companies had to be really creative during that time. AEW was fresh. WWE had a fire under their ass for the first time in a while. NWA, MLW, ROH, OVW we’re fun alternatives to the big two. Best of all Impact was batshit crazy.
Then the crowds came back everything went status quo. Companies stopped taking as many risks. Things that were quirky about AEW soon came “isms”, and after a filler show live in Nashville I just the decided 80% of what their selling isn’t for me. Endless Reigns winning everything, Vince losing his mind more than ever, seeing my favorite guys coming from NXT being stripped of everything that made them cool, that’s if they weren’t one of the 100 people released during a pandemic and ROH closing down, to revolving door booking seeing the same free agent talent on multiple shows and companies one example of this is Zack Ryder taking over GCW was great but seeing him to the same bit in Impact and NWA I’ve stopped caring. Impact and other companies starting feeling like AEW Lite than their own thing. On top of all that seeing my two favorite wrestlers at the time Danhausen and Mance Warner getting terrible injuries right in front of me at the same show, I needed to take a break for a while.
Also getting really big into audiobooks, and both my jobs have been crazy busy this year. I went from watching about 20 hours (a lot of this is background noise) of wrestling a week to maybe one or two. I don’t really go out of my way for anything, it’s more if I remember that’s it’s on. There’s still stuff I’m paying attention to.. punk drama or the fiend returning in a jetpack… so I can see myself getting back into once my 2nd job is done for the season. I enjoyed going to Summerslam, Slammiversary, and OVW house show at a Kentucky County fair, and I’m exited to be going to super Indy headlined by my favorite Dalton Castle here in a few weeks, but weekly tv wrestling just isn’t for me at the moment.
That being said while this year isn’t for me as much as the past few, it’s still a continuation of a lot of those things that made the last few years great, also one of most batshit unpredictable years by far and the unpredictably is what makes this sport great.
