Fightful Select reports that Buddy Matthews may be done with AEW for a while. He was reportedly unhappy, but it's unknown if he has asked for his release.
At Fight Life Pro Wrestling last night, he said:
"Unfortunately, tonight, I'm going to be the bearer of some unfortunate news. As everyone knows, the House of Black has had some issues lately. As all the members of the house, I'm speaking for them all, we want to thank you all for being members of the house. Unfortunately, I, like some of the other members, need to go away for a while. I need to recalibrate. I need to figure out some things. As my brother Malakai once said, this isn't goodbye, this is see you later."
Man what is going on??

I think in Buddy's case, it might be the result of booking that's the source of his unhappiness. Though without Malakai, what kind of threat does the House of Black exactly possess in storyline?

I think it's as simple as a regime change over at WWE, and some of them want back to that same salary but with someone in booking who actually looks out for them.
That Adam Cole, Swerve, and FTR seem fine where they are suggests that it's probably not an endemic issue.

He's going to kill it on Main Event.

He's going to kill it on Main Event. Working with his wife for a salary probably much greater than what he’s making now to be on TV - once, twice a month? Yeah, what a goober!

How will I ever remember that I didn't want to see him in the first place if he goes away?

He is really tied to Black so it doesn't surprise me. At least in WWE he has other people he can work with that he is somewhat tied to or close with so it makes sense he may want to try and return.

Murphy was never a great fit for AEW; extremely talented guy who wasn't being brought in to capitalize on that talent, and House of Black just kind of wasn't a great fit once you got past the 'he and Malakai have a past' part. He could have stood out in TNA, could have gone to New Japan, and stood out a lot more in either place. Really amazing worker who endedu p the fourth most interesting part of a faction because it did nothing to really play to his strengths.

Buddy is a good wrestler in a world where that and a 2$ will get you a cup of coffee. He's technically fine. Looks the part. But has no real charisma or character to himself, and AEW is arguably a smaller pond but with way more sharks in it than WWE. I mean, I could be wrong, and he could flourish in WWE. But, chances are he probably IS going to be working Main Event and PPV pre-shows and doing the house show grind loop.

From a purely selfish side I'll be sad we never got a lot of dream 1-on-1 match ups from him. Was really hoping to see him vs Omega especially.

Time to strap the rocket to Brody King at this point. Even before Malakai left he was standing out as the MVP of the trio, he has a unique look, can put on bangers and comes across as a threat to everyone on the roster.
Plus, he has the added advantage of not having WWE baggage, which in the current climate can only be a good thing.

I like Buddy, but I never thought he was a guy AEW needed to sign in the first place.

Buddy’s AEW run has really just exposed to me that he’s pretty mediocre, and people were overrating him when he was the main event of Main Event.
AEW should press forward with Julia managing Brody.
