Quick! How many times did Jerry Flynn make the list?

I was wondering a few days ago why WWE's Youtube has been posting so many Goldberg videos but realizing now that it's the 25th anniversary of his debut it makes sense.
The undefeated streak thing has been done in a bunch of different companies over the years since but it'll never come close to the excitement of Goldberg at that time. It was just lightning in a bottle that will never be recaptured. Even when he was squashing low-carders like Jerry Flynn or The Barbarian he was getting all-time monster pops.

That's a really cool video. I have a soft spot for Bill. That time of the Streak was just magic.

Goldberg's intensity always made me wonder: Why do so few people come even close to it? And it's not just wrestling, but sports in general. Everybody has their own mentality, but I can't wrap my head around why his intensity is so unmatched. I get people having a hard time opening up in front of a crowd, but wrestlers? Almost all of them?
The video is a great time machine. Goldberg's overness was astonishing, his energy so infectious.

Jackhammer isnt as good, if it doesnt follow a spear One of my favorite things about Smackdown HCTP was the "wake up" moves. You had one mapped to your moves for an opponent on the ground and it would cause them to stand up groggy. So you could hit a spear, use the move then hit the jackhammer so seamlessly it looked like one move.

Goldberg was so over that for years afterwards any dominant big guy who didn't speak much usually always had Goldberg's name chanted at them. It happened to Brock for the first few months after he debuted. Bobby Lashley. Ryback. Batista started using the jackhammer as a regular mid-match move after returning in 2006 but stopped pretty quickly because people would just chant Goldberg when he did it. I'm sure there are more examples too. Goldberg's intensity always made me wonder: Why do so few people come even close to it? And it's not just wrestling, but sports in general. I remember as a kid always wondering why he often had a cut on his forehead before the match even started. It's actually uncomfortable to think of how many possible concussions he had over the years.

Yeah, Goldberg was obviously something special, but he had a shocking lack of discipline sometimes, something that unfortunately cost Bret Hart a tremendous price. I don't know how much of it was him not knowing his own strength, and how much of it was WCW encouraging him to go nuts.

MATH TIME:
According to Cagematch, Greenberg's undefeated streak only reached 159 WINS prior to Starrcade 1998.
The 173 may have accounted for all the people he defeated? But that number is still off by a few.
159 victories + 1 extra via a handicap match + 1 extra partner via sole tag match + 7 extra in a battle royale = 168.
A ha, sprinkle in five no contests and you have the magic number. It was an "undefeated" streak, not a "win" streak. I'm sure Mike Tenay probably made that clear.
BUT I started with three dark matches in July 1997 prior to his official debut in September on Nitro vs. Hugh Morris.
So who knows where the number came from?? In other words: WCW.
P.S. - Jerry Flynn showed up 10 times during the steak. But The Giant takes the cake, thanks to house shows, with 23 losses to Mr. Jackhammer in 1998.
