HBK retired at WM 26 for like almost 9 years until coming back for that horror match at the saudi show, which he regrets like we all do probably.
Just think about if he never retired "that early" in 2010? He was still one of the best if not the best in ring workers! What would have been the storylines for him?
Just imagine all the matches ee could have got! HBK vs Punk, HBK vs Bryan, HBK vs Rollins.

Does he have the power to control time like that?

I'm still upset he didn't wrestle Bryan in NXT or even as his last Raw match instead of Kane. The 'master' retiring as his student is just beginning (in WWE anyway). I know Shawn wasn't as much of an influence as Regal, but there's a story there that could've been told in that brief window. Would've been a cool little match if they treated it like the Jericho one.
The big one to me is definitely heel Punk v Shawn. They had over 3 years to do the match, and they just never pulled the trigger on it beyond in tag team situations. Kinda reminds me of Jericho never facing Bret Hart until a decade later on Raw in a tag match when Bret was old and unable to do much due to his insurance and prior injuries. If Shawn did a 3-year contract, putting him at Wrestlemania in 2013 instead of 2010, we could've got something with him and The Shield, he and Cesaro, he and Big E, one more with Triple H, and the Dolph match that never happened beyond Spirit Squad stuff. Quite a few intriguing matches, though he would've just missed Bray and The Wyatts as they were in the early Wyatt Family in NXT.
