One of the biggest names in wrestling history, one of the biggest shapers of the industry itself in wrestling history. For all his many faults, there's no denying the impact of Inoki on the entire landscape, and far from only in Japan. Dude was instrumental to MMA as well with his mixed style matches.

I'd opened up the front page for a second, left the site, then went, "What the f***, did I see that right?" then doubled back. Crazy to process.

Legendary figure in wrestling and outside too, sad to see him go. Japan has this 24-hour telethon charity show yearly that's a big event and big names constantly show up to keep it going. At the most recent (I think, may have been one before that), he gets brought out on a wheelchair, looks really rough, but you can tell he is summoning everything he has to make some positive comments, I remember seeing that and thinking he has to be so damn tough. RIP.
Language warning, but I'll never forget when he was so sick of a Luke Gallows vs. Sylvester Terkay match he marched to the ring and ended it.

Is there a more famous wrestler in the Eastern hemisphere than him? Rikidozan and Giant Baba are the only names I immediately think of that are on his level. RIP

I know that it was easy to dunk on Inoki for some of the bizarre things that he did over the years, but dude is legit an important person in wrestling history and mixed martial arts as well.
I always liked him as a performer. He slapping the shit out of Great Antonio again right about now lol.

Besides Vince McMahon, was there a person alive on Earth this morning who had done more to shape wrestling as we know it than Antonio Inoki? RIP Inoki-San. He's sparring with Ali in heaven as we speak.

Was his last on-screen New Japan appearance during Liger's retirement?
I know he made some Japanese television telethon-equivalent appearances since then, but was Liger's appearance his last on wrestling-centric programming?

Stunning news... everyone who has been saying he'd been a major force in shaping wrestling as we know it is right.
Rest in peace, sir.

Many have a lot to say about Inokiism and his many quirks but, he is still one of the biggest and most influential names of not only pro wrestling history, but MMA history.
1. He showed that junior heavyweights can be stars.
2. He created the G1 Climax. A tournament that helped make stars and became the model for pro wrestling tournaments.
3. His popularity of strong style led to the creation of “shoot style” that created the UWF/UWFI, and later Mixed Martial Arts as we know it.
4. His integration of lucha in New Japan created a hybrid style that influences so much of what you see in pro wrestling today.
That barely scratches the surface of his influence.
