Just watched the 1st of their trilogy again and man i love the Flair Steamboat matches. These matches are everything i love about wrestling and still hold up today. So believable, every move meant something, the timing and in ring story telling is just tremendous.
Just an appreciation post i guess as i was so pumped after watching it.what do you guys think of the Flair Steamboat trilogy?

I watched it as it happened as a 7 year old, and nothing has topped it since. I know part of it is sentimental attachment because it and the Flair vs Funk series is among the last things I got to watch with my uncle, who died from cancer the following July. But even if I take that away, the matches are just that damn good.

Never got the love.
The first match is good. Really good. But the other two are just kinda... samey.
IMO the best match of 1989 is Hogan VS Savage at WM5

Steamboat and Flair is one of those storied pairings for a reason.

Ricky Steamboat is a really underrated worker by a lot of people I think. Largely due to him not being around during the late 90s when wrestling was on fire.
Off of the top of my head:
Savage/Steamboat Flair/Steamboat Steamboat/Rude in early 90s WCW Steamboat/Jericho like 15 years after he retired.
Probably a bunch I’m forgetting in there too.
Dude is legit.

This trilogy is the peak for both Flair's and Steamboat's careers, imo. It was a story beautifully told inside and outside the ring. I criticize Flair a lot for wrestling the same paint by numbers match over and over, but these matches really felt special, like they both put everything they had into them.
