As we all expected, January 21st at Yokohama will be New Japan versus NOAH. Full card to be announced on ABEMA at 5pm Japanese time. Two matches expected are: Kenoh/Naito Shingo/Nakajima New Japan won the series last year, NOAH no doubt wants to even the score.

Seems like O-Khan will give Shingo a shot at the British Title if he gets a KOPW match.

Luckily for Lio he suffered no broken bones from his spill at Wrestle Kingdom.

That was easily the best New Year Dash in years. As it was going, I was trying to figure out potential matches, and by the time Cobb/Henare came out I had cracked the case for the main event. What a surreal situation and a feel good match.
Overall these past two days have given such a fresh feel to start the year. Omega coming part at least part-time, two new factions emerge from the remnants of Suzuki-gun, strange bedfellows abound and the potential exit of Jay White as of show #2. Plus we barely had a push towards the Yokohama show, but will get all that news in a few hours.
God I love New Japan. Here's to a tremendous 2023.

Thank you. I said this last week, but as good as Jay is, there’s a strange aura surrounding him. Some of it is personal stuff (his wife’s health issues) that I would absolutely not blame him for, but still, it does feel like being in Japan is a chore and not a privilege. Which is a weird feel when this is your world champion. It’s the same aura that his buddies Juice and Finlay have, and at least one of those guys seems to be done with making the flight to Japan for the time being. As an aside, it was interesting to have the Ranbo finish and realize the number of gaijin talent that were just not flown in. I had no idea his wife had health issues. Wouldn't blame him if he wanted to go elsewhere as a result. His wife is a breast cancer survivor, and I get wanting to be around the woman you love as much as possible over long tours in Japan. If he works Strong/AEW/ROH, he can be home six days a week. Even in HHH's new WWE the tour schedule would seemingly not have him away from home for more than a week unless there was a longer international tour (which is like twice a year). Mikey Nicholls left WWE on his own for family reasons as well (wanting to raise his child in Australia near family), so in an inverse it makes more sense for him to be in New Japan occasionally over working tours in the US.

I've heard people say that Jay and his wife are expecting a child, which would certainly require some time away from Japan.

If whoever's losing between Jay and Hikuleo was planning to go to WWE, they're probably on the phone to Gedo trying to cancel it now.

Still catching up on stuff. But that post match promo by Ospreay was f***ing fantastic.
Kenny's response was good, but I remember years back when Will was such an iffy promo guy, but he does the "wears their heart on their sleeve" so well.

The amount of collaboration that NJPW, AJPW, and NOAH will engage in at times is interesting to me because it is so unlike North American wrestling for the most parts. I imagine some of it is a matter of geography, where they simply cannot spread out as much, so they all have a vested interest in not killing a town, and all three knowing that they all benefit when business is hot.
It doesn't always work out, naturally, like how there was seemingly a bitter attitude in NOAH after that period where Suzuki-Gun dominated the entire company for a time and management changed hands, with the new management not wanting to collaborate with NJPW anymore for a time. I'd have to imagine lessons were learned and wounds had healed since then.

Shingo appears to be collecting belts as he told Nakajima who's got a title match apparently soon that if he wins it, he'll put his no.1 contenders shot on the line for it at Yokohama.

The announcement of Kairi vs Mercedes at Battle in The Valley lead to a big surge of tickets being sold.
