Had them years ago, wouldn't wish them on anybody.
Had to throw away almost everything, cost me thousands in extermination fees and replacement costs.

Had them at apartments in Key West I used to live at and they ate us alive. Damn property managers kept saying we must have brought them with us even though the North American bed bug was extinct and we’d never been to South America. A coworker had the same issue and same BS story from them. They took their electric socket cover off and found one painted over and told management to suck it. Boom. All their belongings replaced.

They’re torture and people treat you like you have the plague if you even mention you’ve been around them/know someone who has them.
The show Broad City did a great job portraying the ordeal. Although Lincoln not helping out Ilana definitely made me think less of him. They tried to give him use the excuse he was defending his dog. But I mean, really? No matter how nice you say it, if you tell your girlfriend to f*** off with her bed bugs because you care more about your dog then that relationship is done.

Had them on a couple of occasions in an older apartment we lived in. The woman above us took a bunch of clothes that were thrown out because they had bedbugs. So that was a headache on multiple occasions.

Unfortunately dealing with them right now as I type this and they are literally everywhere! Got married last year and ended up getting them when my wife’s parents came down to visit and were apparently already infested with them themselves. We don’t have a lot of money, so our only option right now is to seal everything we care about air tight and basically save enough money until we can move.

Never had them, but had to deal with them in an office I worked at. They're absolutely the worst things to get rid of. You're better off just throwing out anything they can live in than try to run the risk otherwise. They cm even live in walls and under the floor, so you can have them despite never directly seeing them. I'd rather deal with roaches mice, or silverfish over ever getting bedbugs.

This is going to sound incredibly silly, but it wasn't until my early 20s that I even learned that bed bugs were an actual thing. I was familiar with the famous phrase "Sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite", but I figured they were a fictional invention since there was never a context I'd heard about them otherwise.

They were all but eradicated due to DDT (the chemical, not Jake Roberts), but when that was banned, they slowly made a comeback and are now a real menace. So it makes sense that you didn't hear of them other than the phrase until lately.

I had them in my apartment building... Not sure if they're still around. I was given some spray for around my place... I think that did the trick.

For everyone saying spray...that almost never works.
As I mentioned, bedbugs can burrow in walls and under the floor and survive a very long time without feeding.
Only way we officially did away with them at work was to do one of those big tent things and cook them out.

I paid over $300 for exterminators and they did a lazy job. I still got them.
We're probably moving in a few months which means throwing out 80% of our belongings and starting over at the new apartment because of it, which f***ing blows.

Only way we officially did away with them at work was to do one of those big tent things and cook them out. It DOES work. It's all about how and at times WHO'S applying it. One way to help the problem is spraying 90-100% Alcohol or Steri-Fab. It kills them on contact. Also putting clothes & lining/bed stuff in the dryer REAL hot destroy the eggs. The wash if you have to(hot) then dry them again.

Bedbugs are notoriously difficult to guarantee you have gotten them all. They will find their way into a place where you cannot spray them and as mentioned, they can live there for a long long time. They multiply very quickly, so even the most experienced pest guys can miss them. You're best bet is to cook them all since they can't escape the temperature.

The bastards hatch every 10 days and can live up to a year without feeding. Also sometimes you have to take account of environment, level of infestation and items in said location.

It's a miserable experience. The scratching at night, keeping lights on at night so they don't ambush you while you sleep, and of course, the throwing out of damn near everything you own. Had to hold my landlord over a barrel to get an exterminator to get rid of them.
Landlords always want to claim that they've never had them in their dwelling before. Bull f***ing shit.
