The bastards hatch every 10 days and can live up to a year without feeding. Also sometimes you have to take account of environment, level of infestation and items in said location. Yeah, it's a legitimate fear that I never thought I'd have until I dealt with it at my job. 4 people there ended up living that nightmare, all of which couldn't even return to work until they were guaranteed they had the situation dealt with. It was that bad. The lady who was spreading them was bumming rides off people, which led to them getting in their cars, which led to them in their clothes and eventually to their houses. One person had an apartment and...yeah...the whole facility ended up with them. I can't even imagine the amount of money that costed everyone. It's the reason why I really really despise living near people who don't take care of their property or themselves. I notoriously vacuum and never let worn clothes sit around for more than a day, and never on the floor or near other articles of clothes. Like...these things freak me out a lot.

Fortunately I haven't had to deal with Bed Bugs. I have had a flea issue when I lived in apartments a few years ago. And I didn't have any pets. But my neighbors did. I can't tell you how much I was vacuuming. There were times where I put on some of those teal nurses scrubs and tucked them into some white socks and just stood in parts of my apartments just to see how many would jump on me, then I would use a lint roller to get them. Eventually I found where they originated from. So I feel y'all's pain.

We had them over the summer. It was the worst experience ever. We had hoarder neighbors who got kicked out. After they got kicked out, they tore up the carpet, and guess what showed up in our apartment. Spraying didn't work for us. We ended up having to get the landlord to bring in exterminators. They used the heat treatment. We spent a week going through our stuff, getting it organized, the day off sitting around waiting for them to finish up, and the next day cleaning up.
