According to this website, it WAS the highest grossing PPV of 1997 with 250,000 buys. Even beating out that years Wrestlemania which drew 237,000. It was also up from last year's Survivor Series which was 199,000 buys. While certainly not Attitude Era-like buys, it certainly was an improvement. I do remember during the show,Jim Ross aid: “There is some speculation that this may be Bret’s final match.” I think JR said something to the effect of rumours were this would be the last time HBK and Bret would wrestle, regardless of the outcome.

WWF was just starting to gain some steam, so I think it did good numbers year over year, but was a far cry from numbers they get the next 2-3 years.
