To this day I don't get how it was humiliating for Hogan. It was an awesome match, the crowd was fully behind Hogan, he won and then didn't have to job to Shawn in return. It seems like a win for him in every regard. Heels selling like they're being bounced around like a pinball had happened before. Look at heel Rock v Hogan at NWO 03, Austin at WM19 and especially v Goldberg at Backlash. They were almost comedy matches with the over-selling. Mr. Perfect did it all the time. Shawn himself did it too when he was a heel going against a powerhouse like a Taker or Sid or Diesel. I get it was jarring at the time because it was the first heel Shawn match in 7-8 years. People were used to veteran babyface HBK who was more methodical in the ring then suddenly for one night only it's like 90s heel HBK is back and he's going 100mph to prove he could still bump like a madman. Stuff like Shawn going down for the big boot, waiting for Hogan to turn his back, then standing up to run in a circle and flop down again was clearly meant to make the whole match look like a ridiculous pantomime when WWE obviously wanted it to be a big, dramatic showdown between two icons. Hogan may profess not to care, but I think he was genuinely hoping to have a match that would impress the boys and the crowd against someone like HBK, and HBK basically told him "they can make me lose to you but they certainly can't make me like it" as hard as he could. Other than that big boot sell, it was a classic "Hogan vs. athletic smaller heel" match. I'm pretty sure that HBK just aped a few bumps from Mr. Perfect actually.

In 2016/7, Braun Strowman was pretty well-liked around here for his solid character reboot and constant murdering of Roman Reigns.
Now though….(gestures at hundreds of stupidly awful tweets)

Heel: Ric Flair (lived his character too much and still does) Cm Punk (was always a jerk) Warrior (not that Warrior was always a bad person but the business brought too much bitterness and hatred to this guy.)
Face: Kevin Nash, Scott Hall (both huge ego's and not beloved backstage by many but i really think Nash is a great guy these days.) Batista (was a bit of dick back then but is really cool and a nice dude)
