What shows do you never see ending or being canceled because they're "too big to fail", meaning, they make the network that airs them too much money?
Simpsons and Spongebob are the most obvious ones.

The current incarnations of Top Gear and Doctor Who make the BBC so much money domestically and worldwide, it’s hard to see them ending anytime soon.
Strictly Come Dancing is another one, not to mention the money made off the various international versions of it.

Really basic gameshows like Jeopardy. It's main product, trivia, is basically infinite.
And it's proven that it can surviving losing it's beloved host AND a scandal back to back.

For whatever inexplicable reason, Big Bang Theory seems to have reached that "we want spinoffs to keep this franchise going" tier. I want to say there was a second spinoff past Young Sheldon announced but I'm terrified to double check. Either way, it's hella impressive for a series which barely had a nerd following at the very beginning (at least if the handful of BAZINGA! t-shirts I saw around were any indication) and which nobody seems to know anybody that actually watches it willingly.

SNL. Numerous cast changes, numerous generations of fans who complain that "my generation of the show was better!" Yet it rolls along all the same.
Not sure about money, but AFV lasting despite YouTube and TikTok being things.
I'm still a bit shocked sometimes that Survivor is still a thing.
Probably Grey's Anatomy too.

I'd double down and name its cousin, Wheel of Fortune. Which pretty much has rolled along with little change the last couple of years. (my late online acquaintance would translate that into "Stale!") Price is Right, even if Drew Carey can be polarizing. |

Seth MacFarlane has wanted to end Family Guy for years, but the show still makes crazy money for Fox and the paycheck from it allows him to do the projects he actually cares about so its not going anywhere.

The People's Court is always gonna be a daytime TV staple, it's pretty much been on the air since 1981 (with the exception of a hiatus between 1993-1997). SNL can also be in that category due to making skits about contemporary pop culture, or news the week that they happen.

I think RAW has become this for the USA Network. No matter how soft the numbers might get, I really doubt anybody at USA would every consider canceling it.
South Park for Comedy Central as well. Maybe The Daily Show also.

Some people I worked with watched it. These were folks in their 50s and 60s. It was just another basic sitcom like the ones they are used to. Chuck Lorre CBS sitcoms may be bottom of the barrel creatively but there is still audience out there for them. The Nielsen ratings were huge. May not be the most desirable demographics but they made up for it in quanitity. |

Dancing with the Stars America's Got Talent Family Feud The 700 Club The Today Show / Good Morning America 60 Minutes / Dateline The funny thing with the 700 Club is that the only way they'd sell what used to be the Family Channel to Fox was a contractual obligation to keep airing the show. Disney inherited this when they acquired the channel from Fox. It still would've survived via syndication but what's now Freeform would've cancelled it ages ago if they weren't required to keep airing it. That they air it at like, the worst timeslots imaginable shows you how little they think of it lol. Though Dancing With The Stars got moved to Disney+. Not sure if that's because it got soft cancelled or to get people to subscribe to D+. |

SNL is gonna be on the air until the end of time I've heard rumors that Year 50 might be it as Lorne might finally retire after that year. While I'll believe it when I see it... as someone that recently went through the non-Lorne years on Peacock... it was NOT good (other than Eddie Murphy) at that time without Lorne Michaels. I know people think it isn't good now (and not for several years), but it is still better than those 5 or 6 years Lorne was gone. |

The Simpsons is basically a brand on-par with Mickey Mouse in terms of ubiquity. South Park and Family Guy are absolutely staple shows for their respective networks but I can see them, at least theoretically, ending at some point. The Simpsons has been an institution for as long as I’ve been alive, and since they’re owned by Disney they probably won’t even need to use the original voice cast past a certain point. I’ll probably be seeing an AI-voiced Homer and AI-voiced Luke Skywalker interact on some Disney+ special when I’m in my 90’s.
