So it turns out Chris "Mad Dog" Russo isn't a man of his word. He's not retiring after all. Surprise surprise.

Dusty Baker has decided to call it a career and retire.
I'd say Dusty was a good manager not great but definitely good and with being a 3 time coach of the year being in the top 10 of wins all time and finally getting a ring in 22 I think it's safe to say he'll be getting a plaque in Cooperstown

Looks like Craig Breslow is going to become the Red Sox's next Head of Baseball Operations.
Which is good because if he turned them down the Sox's list was down to Wally the Green Monster.

I could have sworn I saw a 30 for 30 saying that Dusty stole credit for creating the high five from East German Olympic ski jumpper Klaus Hiesler

Baseball is built on tradition, legacy, and dynasties. So yes, it always feels special and important when teams like the Yankees, Dodgers, Cardinals, and Red Sox are in the Fall Classic. But sometimes it’s also fun when baseball just gets weird as f**k and we end up with a Diamondbacks vs. Rangers World Series. It reminds me of that random-ass Mets vs. Royals series in 2015 that I’m pretty sure was just a collective fever dream. Case in point: Until I read your post, I had absolutely no recollection of that match up, or that KC had even won a title less than a decade ago

I remember the Mets having leads early but then spending the last couple of innings most of the games having my soul forcibly ripped from my body.

I still can't believe the D-backs beat the Phillies. It seemed like Bryce's year. This feels distinctly like when the Falcons beat the odds to upset the 98 Vikings only to get trounced in the Super Bowl. Although I thought they would get smoked in the NLCS too, so who knows?

I feel like for many seasons in recent baseball history there's always a team that makes it to the world series that comes from nowhere or from a poor previous season, then they go on to lose decisively in the world series to the perrenial playoff team. (06 tigers, 07 Rockies, 08 Rays, 14 Royals, 15 Mets, )

I remember my Twins going worst to first in 1991 when they won the whole f$#%$@($ thing. If I remember correctly their World Series opponent, the Braves, went from worst to first in their division that same year.

Yeah it looked like the Phillies were the team of destiny this post season until Game 6. Makes you realize baseball is not a momentum sport. They had all the momentum and good vibes after Game 2 of the NLCS and then proceeded to lose 4 of 5.
I feel like the Rangers run is less surprising because they spent a good chunk of the regular season in first place, and their run differential was elite. They really just had an awful bullpen, otherwise they would have run away with the West. The D-Backs started strongly before falling off, but never looked as dominating as the Rangers did for parts of the season. Their run really is a shock, although Corbin Carroll is a franchise player, and it looks like they fleeced the Blue Jays for Gabby Moreno who has looked great as well. Future is definitely bright.
Someone joked about the Tigers being in this spot next season, but really with the expanded playoff format, nothing would shock me anymore. Just get in and get hot at the right time.

Then the Twins & Atlanta proceeded to give us, at worst, a Top 3 World Series of all time.

I think some folks (not here) are overreacting to the playoff format and how it produced this matchup. The Rangers are a 90 win team that was generally good during the regular season. We have seen teams like that plenty of times. The Diamondbacks are more of an anomaly but we have seen middle of the road teams make it this far under previous formats. We once had an 83 win St. Louis Cardinals team win the whole thing. This is just bound to happen in sports. I'm sure we'll see teams with the best record do better in future years.

It's crazy to me that bye weeks essentially are now being frowned upon by fanbases because lower seeds are starting to win more often Maybe it's just y'know... parity in the leagues which is a good thing?
