I guess he's better than Bret at ripping off black culture and still being racist. I guess you can say that, but consider this. Bret Hart: Better as a professional wrestler Road Dogg: Better at ripping off black culture and still being racist Bret Hart: Massively acclaimed performer who influenced generations that came after and is cited as a defining talent in professional wrestling, instrumental in perfecting and advancing the craft Road Dogg: Not particularly acclaimed for his ability to rip off black culture and still be racist, not even particularly renowned as someone who did so among the many present in pop culture, left no lasting influence in the art of appropriation, arguably less renowned for setting trends with his appropriation than the likes of Iggy Azalea is I think this case settles itself.

Roadie took Jeff Jarrett's spot TWICE, and yet people STILL like Double J better, even after all of his foibles with bad TNA business sense, "Triple J" title runs, and GLOBAL FORCE GOLD. JJ isn't half the beloved or respected figure that Bret is, but he's still earned more of the fans' hearts than Road Dogg ever will.

I’ll tell you what, this thread is making me want to watch a bunch of Bret Hart matches and makes me want to forget Road Dogg ever existed.

While Jarrett was over pushed in his career, he is still worlds better than Road Dogg. At least Jarrett was a good worker as well as being good on the mic and charismatic for his level. To the point where I can see why someone would push him hard. Road Dogg doesn’t even have that. Hell, in a performance setting, other than his famous introduction with Billy Gunn, what great or memorable Road Dogg promo had their ever been. Has their ever been a promo he said that made you believe in him or made you want to see a match he was having? And for a guy like Bret Hart, who isn’t considered a great promo guy, I can think of a good chunk of memorable promos and moments that he had.

I can't believe I'm saying this but, I agree with him, slightly. Bret was the better wrestler, Dogg the better entertainer. However, a great wrestler can be a great entertainer. I think I'd rather watch a million RD segments, over Bret ones but I'd take Bret's matches over his. I don't know. I think bringing money into it is where his argument really falls apart. You could argue he probably has a leg up on Bret in line delivery or whatever, but going, "I'm better at what actually draws money," just renders the entire thing absurd when you consider they weren't selling WrestleMania 26 around a Road Dogg match and they never put out a three disc Road Dogg best-of DVD set or WWE Greatest Rivalries: Road Dogg & X-Pac vs. The Dudley Boyz. Yeah, Bret by far drew more money and is an example of how a wrestler can do so over a better sports entertainer like RD. I would take someone with okay charisma but great in the ring over someone with amazing charisma but dog shit in the ring to build around everyday of the week. Just if you say I have to choose between watching 5 Hart matches or 10 RD promos, I'd go with the promo because Bret never really did it for me unless against someone like Austin or HBK who I think were a level above him by far.

Road Dogg wasn’t even the better sports entertainer of any tag team or stable he’s ever been a part of. Sure, up until the last year you could conceivably argue he had more to offer than Billy Gunn, but now? Daddy Ass is a treasure and Road Dogg is best known for garbage opinions and being bad at his job.

OK, I know everyone has different tastes and all, but there is no category of pro wrestling in which Road Dogg was better at then Bret Hart. Yup. Bret was better at everything.

Although I always knew Bret was an excellent wrestler, I did occasionally find him to be quite dull.
That said, I'd rather watch Bret stare at a wall for seven hours straight than watch a Road Dogg match.

As I replied to someone on Twitter, Road Dogg spent his life in the coattails. Like, he grew up the son of one of the most prolific wrestlers of the deep south, Bullet Bob Armstrong, and was essentially set because of that. Then when he made it to the WWF, they hooked him up with Jeff Jarrett as the freaking Roadie, and when he finally made it big as part of the New Age Outlaws, he was the mouthpiece of the crew while Billy Gunn did all the wrestling and the ass jokes. D-Generation X writes itself.
When you look at what he did when he left the WWF in 2001, he essentially played a nostalgia act of himself, right down to the catchphrases. I mean, sure, you could argue that Bret sometimes came off like a cartoon version of himself and even overstated his own value because, well, he's Bret Hart and Bret Hart will always have an overinflated value of Bret Hart, but Bret understood when he needed to change up things and how to read the room. Wasn't until he saw what a disaster WCW was that he gave up mentally and, of course, shit snowballed in his life with how he left the Federation and so on.
But, ultimately, this is just Road Dogg baiting us into listening to his damn podcast. And he's not that interesting to listen to.

I mean, for goodness sake; when Bret got the belt back from Diesel in 1995, people started having an interest in the show again, which the company needed to try the HBK run. Sure, Bret wasn't ever going to be the man who drew the colossal gates, but he was a certified draw that kept things healthy for you when you needed it, especially the bath you took on Squeaky Clean Kevin Nash.

Everybody has their favourites and people can like who they like, but for me personally, never once in my life have I thought “Maybe I’ll look up a Road Dogg match or promo on YouTube.”
The man did nothing for me.
Now Bret Hart on the other hand, there’s a guy whose work I frequently rewatch.

Bro, Bret Hart almost single-handedly carried the company through one of the financially lowest points in the company's history. The idea that you were ever anywhere close to the draw that Hart was is laughably false.
Sit down, shut the f*** up, and show the Hitman the proper respect.

Road Dogg was over at most for 2 years and made a career out of how over he used to be.
