I miss Brad Armstrong so much. I wish he could have gotten a chance with the WWF/WWE machine behind him,

Imagine the insane shit Road Dogg would say if he wasn't off the sauce and drugs.

I liked Dogg back in the day, but man this is a dumb take.

Dogg is absolutely trolling but I also think he absolutely believes this
You could argue that Dogg is the smarter wrestler, Hogan style, for getting so over while doing nothing
But the entertainer vs wrestler argument falls down because wrestling is entertainment

I think the difference between Hogan and Roaddogg is Hulk could do more, but didn't need to, while Dogg worked the way he did because he couldn't do better and that meant tag guy or manager were his ceiling. He sucked as a worker but got chance after chance because people liked Bullet Bob.

That may be where the money is but Bret was a better wrestler and a better sports entertainer than Road Dogg. There is literally nothing in the wrestling industry that Road Dogg is better at than Bret Hart. Bumming an opponent during the pump handle slam. Nah, Bret could do that better than Road Dogg, he just chose not to

I get his point in as far as Bret has always been someone I considered a plodding, boring performer who couldn't talk bar a couple of promos in 1997.
RoadDogg's just not the person to use as the example opposite., however much he wants to blow smoke up his own arse.

I've never listened to Freddie's podcast, it may just be him shitting all over various things. But he isn't responsible for that site writing an article based on three setences he said.

The "Bret Hart wasn't actually that good" hot takes have been around so long I almost feel like Bret is underrated by some tbh.
Now, I liked Road Dogg, though I wish he'd stop being a f***ing idiot. But...
Wrestling. Not in Bret's class Main eventing - not in Bret's class. Storytelling - Not in Bret's class Interviews - Hmm, Dogg has the edge on the live mic, but Bret changed characters and had to do 15 minute live promos. Dogg had 60 seconds at most with catchphrases. I think this is closer than it looks. Charisma - Dogg probably edges it, but Bret is again underrated here. He drew folk into his matches like few others.
DRAW - Right, so here's the thing. Bret's drawing power outside America pretty much kept the WWF alive in the mid-90s. Road Dogg was part of a very successful stable which drew.
Road Dogg probably made more money because he was on TV in WWF in 1998 and 1999, two of their most successful money years in history.
HOWEVER, I'd genuinely say this. Bret might be known for disliking change, but Bret Hart the wrestler was remarkably good at adapting to changes to stay relevant. If that concussion hadn't ended his career he'd have probably continued on in that regard. imo Road Dogg only sold more merch because of WHERE he was, not who he was. If you had Bret Hart in the WWF in 1998-2000, and his relationship to Austin and Rock, he's damn well outselling Road Dogg on every criteria.

Away from the money nonsense he thinks Bret was a great worker but not a great wrestler?
Wrestler Vs sports entertainer is already a questionable distinction but add worker to that list and I'm lost, I think I'll need a PowerPoint presentation and venn diagrams to understand.

Road Dogg is better than a lot of "good wrestlers" these days with no gimmick, distinctive look or character.
But Bret had all of these.

He's been saying things for months. Those were just the two I saw yesterday. Also I did say my issue was with how overquoted things people like him say have become, so I wasn't laying all the blame on him either. It's been a long running annoyance with various sites giving things like this more focus than they need/deserve.

Road Dogg was only 31 when DX finally ended and was never able reinvent himself into anything remotely entertaining and it almost all derived from a gimmick that was no longer relevant. Bret was a top act for almost a decade.

I feel like everything that needs to be said already has been about this particular hot take, but I just have to ask: outside of his catchphrases, can anybody remember a single really good promo that Road Dogg ever cut? Like, for as much talking as he used to do, it feels like he never really had anything to say.

Like, for as much talking as he used to do, it feels like he never really had anything to say. I was going to say the same thing. Road Dogg had one catchphrase that he repeated a million times and fans did it along with him. Does that really make him a great promo? I honestly can't remember him ever having a memorable promo. The weakest part of Bret's game was his promos and I still remember a significant amount of them beyond just "Best there is, was, or ever will be" catchphrase stuff. I actually think Bret in 1997 was a better promo than Road Dogg has ever been. Maybe that's a hot take but I think Bret peaked way higher as a promo guy than someone who just repeated a catchphrase.

Road Dogg was a great hype man. Let him do the DX entrance and you got most of what he has to offer. He was Wolfpac Konnan without the depth. In that regard: No, Bret never had that. But the same goes for 99% of the other wrestlers.

It's been a long running annoyance with various sites giving things like this more focus than they need/deserve. He has a weekly podcast where he discusses the shows for 45 minutes to an hour. Of course the news sites are going to pick out whatever criticisms he makes and run headlines with them. The show overall is not a downer or anything. He talks up a lot of the current product for all companies.
