With no one knowing Austin would get hurt in that match, does anyone know what the original plans were for Austin with the IC title?
Was he to defend it against every other Hart Foundation members in rematches? Go a different path with the title and feud with the Nation?
I've never seen this really brought up but I'm sure Austin must've had some plans with the IC title up until the Rumble win and then Mania world title match. Maybe Austin vs. Bret Hart title for title at Wrestlemania 14?

Probably still loses it to The Rock before the Rumble. Maybe they do it in an actual match with Rock using the Nation to get the win, since the way Austin handed Rock the title seems like it was a way to allow Austin to have minimal ring time due to the injury.

Faarooq I imagine might have got a title match and Rock being the one to take the title off Austin and not him furthers the tension between those two. Maybe a title defence against Foley at some point but I’m sure Owen would have probably got a rematch.

I imagine he would defended it against Owen at Survivor Series 97 before going on to feud with the Rock like he did but it would have been more in-ring heavy than it turned out to be. I don't think too much would have changed.

I wouldn't even be terribly surprised if they would have had Faarooq win it and have Rock win it off of him, but I could also see it going straight to Rock. Either way, he was likely next in line as a champion in earnest.

(It's been done in the past by wrestlers looking to move up.)

Why would anybody want to compete for a championship that is being shown by their predecessors that it's worthless?
