Now that we are a few years removed from it, I really can't get over how cool it was to be a wrestling fan in late 2019/early 2020.
You had AEW debuting on tv; the first time that it felt like something had actually changed with the landscape of wrestling in the previous two decades. The positivity was overwhelming, the shows week to week were great. It all felt new and fresh and exciting, and some of the more tired/bad tropes that AEW have since had had not really come to fruition yet.
NXT had made the jump to live tv and were throwing everything they had to compete with AEW. The shows week to week were some of the best tv the WWE had put together. They're was a weekly sense of 'holy shit what's going to happen!?' The creative juices were flowing and NXT stars were making their presence felt on WWE PPVs and tv shows. Very exciting time.
NXT UK had found its groove and was putting out very solid episodic wrestling with some great crowds, and some great Takeovers in their own right.
The NWA revival and Powerrr was absolutely killing it. It's easy to forget cause of how shit it is now, but those initial months of Powerrr and the NWA were so good. Aldis, Tim Storm, James Storm, Eli Drake, Colt, Alysin Kay, Thunder Rosa, Pope, Aaron Stevens and the Question Mark, Eddie Kingston finally putting himself on the map, the rise of Ricky Starks, the revival of the Rock and Roll Express. It was glorious.
Impact was intriguing. You had Brian Cage and Sami Callihan being great in the main event scene, a stacked tag and X-Division, and the push of Tessa Blanchard. Whatever you think about Tessa, it was interesting to follow a female wrestler being pushed to the very top of the men's division.
ROH was really solid at this time. RUSH was killing it in the main event scene and PCO was experiencing a massive surge in popularity.
New Japan were still riding that high, putting on incredible events with molten hot crowds. Mox and Jericho had brought a lot of eyes to the company.
STARDOM was really taking off.
I am probably missing other promotions' great work in this time frame so feel free to add more. I think the pandemic occurring has caused a lot of this great period to be kind of forgotten by everyone, but man, all I can remember is just not having enough time to catch up on all the fantastic wrestling, exciting goings on, and never before scene optimism and positivity happening during this time period.
