One of my biggest gripes in wrestling is when a guy who's noticeably smaller, beats a guy who looks like he could break him in half.
Ricky Starks beating Lance Archer and Brian Cage is a prime example of this. I get they want to push him but those wins just looked incredibly forced to me.
Jungle Boy beating Luchasaurus I could MAYBE excuse. He did do a Diving Elbow through the table after all. But I still probably would've had Luchasaurus not lose. Maybe he could've thrown Jungle Boy through the Cage and he gets the win.
Am I the only one who gets "taken out of it" when I see this happen? I like to suspend my disbelief but some times it just looks incredibly forced and fake to me.

In real sports there are guys who are half the size of other guys and they believably beat them
I don't understand why it's so hard to believe smaller guys in wrestling can beat powerhouses when there is an air of "These guys are also strong", a mix of constant differing styles, and ways to break own larger opponents and get the win, which was shown especially in Archer vs Starks imo, or when he lifted Brian Cage up with his own pure strength and slammed him down to win
It doesn't bother me one bit, if you get taken out of it then that sucks I guess, but you've talkedd about this multiple times, idk what to tell ya, but wrestling's not gonna stop doing something that his working for a large portion of fans, and has for a long time.

If I'm willing to accept people doing shit like superkicks and 450s in fights, I don't think a small guy beating a big one is a stretch.

I mean……it’s pro wrestling, you throw realism out the window when you think about how Irish whips actually work for more than a second so no, a smaller guy beating a bigger guy doesn’t take me out of it

Ricky Starks isn’t exactly Marko Stunt though.

Randy Couture won the UFC Heavyweight championship despite being 20-30lbs smaller than everyone else
Mike Tyson was 30lbs smaller than anyone else he boxed while heavyweight champion. He was also the most dominant champion of the last 30 years
In hockey, Tie Domi was 5'7 and would regularly win fights against guys who were over 6'

If I'm not buying a little guy beating a big guy, then that is just a sign that the big guy isn't good enough at selling.

If I can buy aliens deciding to become pro-wrestlers, I can buy Bryan Danielson kicking in the head of the biggest alien Tony has decided to book.

If you’ve seen the clip of Cornette comparing pro wrestling to a fight on the highway, he describes Pro-Wrestling’s entire appeal in a big guy Vs little guy premise, exactly.

It was easy buying Starks beating Archer, Starks hit Archer with a spear winding him and rolled through into a pin that had most of Archers weight over his shoulders. And against Cage, Starks was able to hit the destroyer, resulting in 280 pounds of roided out muscle force channelled through the head and spine of Cage and allowing Starks to hit his finisher and win the match.

I love when someone attempts to bring realism into wrestling.

Today’s TV audience is more familiar with Rey Mysterio’s than they are Hulk Hogan’s work.
Not only that, you also have early MMA with the Gracies running over larger fighters.
If someone has the personality and skill, just about anyone can be a star in wrestling who can win at a main event level. Marko Stunt beating a Brock Lesnar would not be believable, no. But remember when Danielson just took Brock apart during the second half and Brock barely won their match? That’s perfectly believable.

He was also the most dominant champion of the last 30 years In hockey, Tie Domi was 5'7 and would regularly win fights against guys who were over 6' That's not really applicable to pro-wrestling, where sometimes the weight advantage is 100-200 pounds. In MMA a welterweight could beat a middleweight, but never in a million years will a lightweight beat a heavyweight.
With that said, I treat wrestling like a live action comic book as opposed to a legitimate sport. We all know Gal Gadot wouldn't be able to beat up a bunch of men in real life. But in Wonder Woman, you suspend disbelief and accept that she has "super powers".
In wrestling you pretend Rey Misterio knows some crazy Mexican high flying moves that bigger men can't keep up with.

Smaller guy overcoming the odds to beat the bigger guy has been a trope since David and Goliath. It's been at the heart of pro-wrestling forever. It's not always done well so I think there's room for criticism when it fails, but if you don't like it as a trope then you're not going to like a lot of pro-wrestling.

Bruce Lee was only 5'8 and under 200 pounds and I could have bought him kicking any AEW monster's ass.

Depends on the believability of the performer. I was always able to buy Angle or Benoit beating Taker or Kane because they clearly had the talent. Same with Bryan or AJ Styles. If you’re talented enough you should be able to beat anybody.
If you look like you’ve barely been to a gym then yeah I’m going to have a hard time believing you can beat Brock Lesnar or Junglesaurus. Adam Cole is my biggest bug bear with this but at least he wins most of his matches by cheating which excuses that.

Yeah, I don't know why literally anybody ever beat Big Show in his career besides Brock Lesnar.
Wrestling would be so much better if big guys always won! You'd basically never even have to watch the shows! And I wouldn't! Leaving me more time for other hobbies! Win-win, really.

This is pro wrestling, where we put reality aside and believe that CM Punk can kick anyone’s ass.
