WCW Mayhem wasn't what I'd call a good game, but I do recall the roster being oddly robust. Beat me to it. It's arguably just as good as Revenge's roster. Too bad the game itself isn't as good as its roster...

SVR 2009, despite having no legends, had a pretty up to date roster when it came out. We did get the Masked Man and Tony lol. WWE Raw 2 had a good roster too. That game had people that weren't in Here Comes the Pain nor WrestleMania XIX: Billy Gunn, Jamie Noble, Nidia, Christopher Nowinski, Crash, Shannon Moore. Even Tommy Dreamer was in. Absolute madness how raw 2, is nobles only game, and nunzio never made it into a WWE game Noble was also in 2k16.

The most incredible thing about Smackdown Shut Your Mouth was the amount of licensed themes that were included. Hulk Hogan having both Voodoo Child and Real American available is still mind blowing now. Tazz also had his Cypress Hill theme which he only used for a few months. The only strange one was The Hardy Boyz had a weird generic theme and Maven had the Smackdown theme despite there being an instrumental version of his actual theme in the audio files on the disk.
Although the licensing seemed to ruin the budget for HCTP as the likes of RVD, Kane and The Dudleyz would all have their old themes in that game.

The only strange one was The Hardy Boyz had a weird generic theme That's especially strange because their theme has a cheap/free licence which is why it's sometimes heard in unexpected places.

I saw him listed a few places as being in the game... I don't have the game on hand to check, so maybe they are all pulling from the same false info.

My guess is it was a contract thing. that the WWE's usage license of the library was only for like Television and DVDs and not for video games. (or because it was technically THQ they would have had to buy their own usage thing) Also was that the game that they used an instrumental of what would become Matt's solo theme?

Snarky Answer #1: Fire Pro Wrestling World
Snarky Answer #2: Rumble Roses
More Serious Answer: To be completely honest, Battlegrounds has a damn solid line-up on paper. Minus the 7 OCs. Like, more tag teams then I was expecting for sure. Granted, there's only 5 movesets between everyone & you either have to do a lot of grinding, or spend $15 upfront to get everyone, but still....

I think that was one of the Gamecube games where Matt and Jeff were using that. Flair and Tajiri also had odd themes.

Nah it was a random version that sounded similar but had no energy. The instrumental version was used for Matt Hardy in Wrestlemania 19 and Crush Hour.

Thinking about it, how insane would it have been if they got Dennis Rodman into Revenge? It would have been a really poor use of money, but it would have that much further captured the era. Shame there's no CAW in the game. Should have been in the NWO pack for 2k22, as hes in nba games On a slightly random note, his daughter Destiny is in FIFA 23 Honestly the thing that’s absolutely mind blowing to me is that 2K is able to get basically every big star from prior to about 2010 in every year, with the only big exceptions being Barkley and Miller.

As far as that Hardy Boyz theme, didn’t they actually use that theme for a short time before changing it to the one we love?

WCW Thunder had a good roster of WCW guys... and a ridiculous amount of unlockable characters that had nothing to do with WCW.

Then again, they probably knew it was an otherwise weak game and thus goofed off a bit. Revenge's randos, like Hanzomon and Dr. Frank, I actually used to use a lot as a kid.

Thinking about it again, Smackdown 2 has a very nearly perfect roster for what it is. Big Show's the big omission, naturally, same with No Mercy, but I guess it'd have also been good to get Chaz in the game, too, given D'lo is wearing his Lo Down gear pre-Tiger Ali Singh, so it'd give the game another complete tag team.
