Since the end of the AE who do you think has been the most over wrestler/wrestlers?even if only for a short period.of course i know Cena has to be the biggest star but he wasn't all that over with large sections of the audience.did anyone ever get close to a Rock Austin over?

CM Punk is certainly up there. Hell, he was inactive for most of the last decade and still one of the most talked about guys in the business.

I think if Roman beats The Rock at WrestleMania it could solidify him on that level.

Being over is all about selling tickets or PPVs, which I guess is quite hard to assess in the modern era. People booed Cena, but they came to events to boo him, so the guy was over with that segment of the audience, just not as a babyface. Maybe merch sales are the best metric of being over in this era. In which case, Cena has to still be up there. I don't know who the other big sellers have been, probably Punk, Reigns and the usual suspects.
If you want to talk just natural, organic crowd response then it has to be Daniel Bryan, although his being over wasn't really as sustained as some of the other names mentioned due to injury.

For all his demons Jeff Hardy is always over it seems. Jeff was able to accomplish what he did and remain consistently and massively over despite his issues. Had he kept clean I think he could have been one of THE top guys, on the level of Punk and Bryan. I also think RVD should have been up there too. I've been rewatching some invasion era stuff and Van Dam is getting some of the loudest pops. He would remain over, of course, but WWE fans would cool on him because the company didn't push him how he deserved.

There's some that have peaks like Ryback, others are more over long-term on their ability but without the big peaks like AJ Styles and Samoa Joe.
The most over combine the two like Bryan, Punk and Becky. People like The Shield are just below where they are basically permanently over but have the odd creative slump where they're rarely seen as the one to blame.
Then the likes of Miz, Ryder, Orange Cassidy, Alexa Bliss are basically always over as characters. Although Ryder in particular had a peaks where he got cheers over The Rock and nuclear heat in Gcw.
Then there's those that have a look that ensures they stay over to some degree, usually as a monster.
Which I suppose is a long way of saying depends what criteria you're using.

How over was Otis pre-pandemic? I remember him being super over during the Mandy story, shame that Covid stopped his push more or less.

I feel the answer is Brock Lesnar. His overness when he killed Cena in the debut of Suplex City was something rarely seen since the early 2000's. He's had a couple monster pops since then with surprise returns and random showings. Don't confuse his over-all popularity with these short bursts of mega-overness.
And I also agree with the mention of Otis and the pandemic. If we got a proper climax (hehehe) with Otis and Mandy with a live crowd it would have torn the house down.

Cena is obviously number one. He was getting the biggest pops on a super stacked roster around 03-04 then it somehow got louder when you got to the split crowds with let's go Cena/Cena sucks. Compared to like top face Roman who often got apathy, Cena for like 15 years straight would usually have the loudest crowd reactions every night.
Lesnar and Batista were major over stars and like Rock and Cena became popular outside wrestling.
The likes of Orton and Mysterio have been over for years and years.
Undertaker/HHH/HBK were attitude stars but they were massively over in following eras too.
Guys who didn't have the longevity but for periods were really hot like Hardy/Bryan/Punk/Becky/heel Roman so far.
If you're including non-North American based then the likes of Tanahashi/Okada/Naito/Mistico.
