The first one's a game I've seen a good bit of - watched a good few livestreams of people playing it while talking about other things - but never actually played, and from what I've seen it seems like a mix of a story that's just kind of throwing things at the wall and gameplay that could not possibly be any more mindnumbingly dull. Maybe it works better hands-on but it's kind of always struck me just a giant, "What on earth is the appeal of this?" I can't speak for anyone else but for me the appeal is largely emotional. Take away all the sci-fi shit that's essentially magic and it's ultimately a game about broken people in a desolate world trying desperately to connect both physically and emotionally with others, and either succeeding in that goal or at least coming to terms and making peace with themselves.

It's kind of hard to explain why I loved Death Stranding's gameplay but I enjoyed how unique and relaxing it was. I loved mapping out my journey ahead, making sure I had the right tools to get there. Traversing the desolate countryside was just so chill with your cargo rattling, your boots thudding against the ground and Low Roar playing. And it's a great feeling when you finally arrive at your destination after you've exhausted all of your supplies, your cargo is barely intact and your boots are about to fall to pieces. And then you stock up and do it all over again. It's not for everyone but I loved it. I’m in the same boat. I absolutely loved it when I really wasn’t expecting to. It just didn’t look interesting to me at first and I decided not to get it. Then 6 months ago I was at home sick for a week and looking at games. It was on offer so I thought what the hell. I was completely engrossed from start to finish. It’s such a relaxing and surprisingly emotional game. It can’t be understated also just how great the soundtrack is. I got hardcore into Low Roar due to this game.

Curious to see how this one goes. I haven't finished the first one yet but I strangely enough loved it and a huge fan of it. All the while it is definitely one of those things where even though I loved it I can totally understand why someone would hate it and I hate it I mean they can make a legit case that I can not even make the slightest argument against. I will say kojima has a tendency to get way too self-indulgent for his own good.
