One of the(if not, the) greatest versions of "A Christmas Carol" opened in theaters

Not “one of” the greatest, the greatest. And the greatest adaptation of a Dickens story too.
And (I’m deadly serious here) Michael Caine’s greatest performance.

I saw that in theaters. I thought it was awesome then, I still think it now.

And (I’m deadly serious here) Michael Caine’s greatest performance. Caine is an absolute titan as Scrooge. He could have played it firmly tongue in cheek and hammed it up because 95% of his scenes are shared with Muppets, and that would have been perfectly fine and wouldn't have detracted from the movie in any way. Instead he played it as if he were acting opposite Olivier, Richardson and Gielgud, and it's so, so good.

Empire did a really good feature on this last week about how it was made. I never knew they nearly had to close down until Disney saw what they were doing. link

An interesting fact: Caine starred with Bob Hoskins in the film Mona Lisa, and then both of them went on to star opposite beloved nonhuman characters and deliver powerhouse performances that elevated good children’s movies into great films, period. My point is: go watch Mona Lisa. It’s fantastic.

One of the(if not, the) greatest versions of "A Christmas Carol" opened in theaters Disney+ recently added the intact movie with "When Love is Gone" re-added (in the extras section).

Ghost of Christmas Past is still one of the creepiest effects I've ever seen in a film. Leaping over the uncanny valley there.
Ghost of Christmas Future was pretty scary too, I guess.
A metal band should cover the "we're Marley & Marley...." number.

I saw this in theaters as part of a school trip. The other kids got cash from their parents to buy theater food but my mom packed me lunch (which didn't bother me). But one of the teachers did buy me and a fellow student snickers ice cream bars. It was an awesome day. The movies gives me good memories.

I mean, I still stand by Mickey's Christmas Carol being the best adaptation.
But this is right up there with it.

Caine even said from the onset that Muppets or not I'm playing Scrooge as this was the royal theater production version of the character. And also it should be said by having him acting alongside the Muppets it lends a tiny bit of subtext to this portrayal of Scrooge making him into this towering oppressive figure that views the people in his life as mere vermin and other assorted oddballs to be walked over.

Micheal deserved best actor for this,he is so damn good as Scrooge and the Muppets were brilliant to,heck Kermets acting was almost as good as Micheals in my book,he,Piggy and Tiny Tim made me cry and still do! The songs too are amazing.

Muppets Christmas Carol is also interesting, because it's the beginning of the Post-Henson Era.

Muppets Christmas Carol is also interesting, because it's the beginning of the Post-Henson Era. Both Jim Henson and Richard Hunt would be gone before the movie released.

I watched it last night, still holds up mostly.
Is it me or once we hit Christmas Present, the movie has a video look rather than film? At least on Disney+.
