From what I understand about the FOX deal is that while they aren't THRILLED, they also aren't mad either, considering it usually places #1 or #2 for the night across TV in terms of 18-49 viewership. Which was a lot better than the previous shows they aired in that slot. |

WWE is basically succeeding because so much general TV ratings have fallen off, and new programming 52 weeks a year is simply too good a deal for networks to pass up even with meh numbers.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again; the two things that’ll be seen as the ruining of the FOX deal in hindsight will be WWE selling them a bill of goods (remember, they expected 4m viewers and haven’t come close, even with the good demo) and accepting USA’s NXT offer over FS1’s.
Like; financially, it made sense but FOX had just lost UFC, they wanted to build something around the WWE purchase and practically giftwrapped a slot where there was low risk for high return and all they got out of it was a show that was made for a WWE lead-in with Backstage with no WWE lead-in to make that make sense. For all the talk of “Oh, Backstage failed because it was in a terrible slot”, why do you think it ended up in a terrible slot? FOX had no reason to do much with it.
Now, do I believe NBC would purchase WWE? It’s a real crapshoot at this point. It makes “sense” in the sense of that they are already funding a lot of it but considering how Peacock is doing and other factors, I don’t know if if financially makes sense to add something where more cost is on your shoulders and you need to make it fit with the rest of your portfolio.
How it could actually happen is if Vince decides to just say “F*** it” and use his voting shares to agree the purchase as a blazing middle finger to the company that forced him to retire and the fact there isn’t a 0% chance of that happening makes this more viable than it was even when Vince was CEO.

From a realistic standpoint- in a time of cord cutting along with the Friday Night death slot, shouldn't Fox be pleased with Smackdown?

I mean, the publication itself seems credible (they’re breaking the story that Google’s likely to pick up NFL Sunday Ticket, for example) but just more for a humor me perspective. |

I haven't researched it myself but my original post about their lack of enthusiasm revolved around the situation that was mentioned in a post following mine....The fact that WWE was pulling in big numbers at the time and had seemingly promised double what they are doing now |

His 2022 predictions include: Amazon buying almost 50% in the NFL's media properties. To my knowledge all they got is Thursday night games, I don't know how big that is or not, but he definitely acted there on open comments from Amazon folk. Disney will carry NFL Sunday Ticket. From a Google search, that looks to have not happened, but Disney was involved in the bidding. Big Ten signing with CBS and Fox. Looks like this happened, too, although again there were comments made that looked to be blowing that way. SEC leaving CBS a year early. It looks to have not happened at all. ESPN renews Formula One with a big rights increase. Looks like it got renewed, can't find a quick reference for how big any increase was. MLS signing with ESPN and WarnerMedia. Looks like AppleTV and Fox Sports are the holders there. NASCAR negotiations speculation, that looks to be ongoing as of a few weeks ago. Diamond Sports Group stays out of bankruptcy. Looks like that's still ongoing, but it looks like claims that Sinclair will be glued to a big role in it fall short due to ongoing sale deal talks. There's more but this is as many as I felt like digging in on, and it paints a reasonable picture of a guy who's done the sports media beat a lot, has connections, and obviously is glued in to every last bit of commentary and interest put out into the press. So he's definitely a trustworthy guy on this front, definitely has some correct calls, but he's also not glued on the inside track. Given how little he seems to write on wrestling, my guess is WWE's rights are under his purview and he's making his guess, but he likely doesn't have a ton of insider info to guide these claims, that's just where he thinks the industry sits right now. He got some stuff very right, and got some stuff very wrong, and those are for larger, more in-his-wheelhouse leagues than wrestling likely is. |

I really, really doubt NBC would want to purchase WWE, because it'd cost them significantly more money to run it than what they pay for it right now and it'd instantly become less lucrative of a business due to no longer receiving TV rights fees.

I dont see wwe being sold while vince is alive, he may have bought it from his father but it's still the family business (entertaining people, booking things... the family business.) and vince while not outwardly sentimental to the world, he is (how many people did he keep employed to the detriment of the show?) and has shown he is fiercely protective of the company.
after vince is gone then it's entirely possible if he doesn't have it in his will that it can't be sold for x amount of years (which personally I expect vince to do.) the whole "then, now, forever" wasn't just marketing that was more vince warning everyone that wwe will be mcmahonland for as long as it's physically possible to be and with both steph & shane having the next generation of mcmahons already vince will have things in place as majority shareholder and from before his enforced retirement as ceo to ensure a mcmahon will stay at the top of the wwe mountain.
and vince has seen what happens to a wrestling company owned by a tv company, he paid peanuts for his biggest competitor.
