Realized a big reason I love watching 80's and early 90's shows is not just crowd engagement but crowd make up. Before the globalization and homogenization of the late 90's turned the wrestling fan attire into "T-shirt and jeans", you could tell so much about the fans and the wrestlers they supported.
Lower class kids and families who generally (but not always) rooted for the faces and were always heard when not seen. Teenage girls and younger/single women screeching for the good-looking wrestlers and looking their best regardless of status (daisy dukes etc for lower, pretty dresses or clubbing outfits for upper). The nerds/insiders in polos and shorts or jeans - often alone but sometimes in groups - cheering for the best performers to the annoyance of the previous. Couples on date night - men in suits and women in dresses/gowns. Grannies in sweaters and skirts acting as second referees. Old guys in suspenders or suits who sat stoically and then leaped up for main events they probably bet on. Then you'd have the occasional cast of outliers (punks, goths, undetermined).
You still have some of these dynamics, obviously, but it's harder to make out when gazing at a crowd now.

It definitely adds to the nostalgic magic.
Couple months ago I was watching an episode of World Championship Wrestling from 85 and I saw a group of boy scouts in the crowd. Imagine getting to go to that studio on a field trip at 6-7 am to watch your favorite wrestlers.

Go to some local indie shows, and you'll see a similar variety of fans. Yep I was gonna say come to an indie show in the deep south. Besides guys in suits you will see all you mentioned and more. Now I have noticed the smaller the town the more you see guys and ladies in jeans and a t shirt. But hit up a bigger city like say DFW TX or NOLA and there is pretty much every type in the crowd. EDIT-Forgot that even now he isn't doing commentary, koby(the guy on the right in my sig pic) still wears a suit to pretty much every indoors show. Depending on the show and what I am doing I dress differently. If I am just going to hang out and watch matches jeans and t shirt or shorts and dickies workshirt. But If I have to film and help out I am gonna be in shorts and a wrestling shirt and one of my masks. Plus some good shoes.
