Does anyone think that King Kong Bundy could have been just as effective as a face as he was a heel? I can see him maybe turning on Heenan, maybe accusing him of focusing too much on Andre. Maybe if Bigelow hadn't come in.

Only if he started tagging with his brother Al. No relation. He just stole Peg’s nickname.

In 1984 in what would become WCW, Bundy started a face turn against the Legion of Doom (Road Warriors, Ellering, The Spoiler), so he could probably have pulled it off. Could have seen a "tense partnership" thing with Hogan and Bundy ala Hogan and Piper. Heck, if he wanted it and stuck around, could have seen him instead of Beefcake as Hogan's partner against Savage and Zeus.
Here's a mostly face Bundy promo for ya.

He definitely could have been a competent face. I doubt he'd have been the top guy, and he wouldn't be likely outpopping JYD, Snuka, or Steamboat, but depending on who else was around, yeah, he probably could have been a decent face.

It would probably be similar to Earthquake turning in 1992.

I think he could've got over as a face. He was a funny guy who could be likeable and I see him working as wiseass who makes fun of the heels but is also a giant who can back it up in which you would want to see him beat the crap out of the chicken s**t heels (Honky Tonk, Dibiase) and be an equalizer against the fat guy heels (Andre, Boss Man, Akeem) since he could match up in the girth department.
Funny enough it seems like they were playing with the idea of a Bundy turn in late 1986. There was times where they teased him and Studd getting into it after one accidentally hit the other in tag matches with the crowd siding with Bundy. They also teased a feud with him and Kamala. They had one of those deals where one finished a squash match and the other was making his way out for his match and had a confrontation in the aisle way. Bundy was clearly positioned as the face in the altercation as he stood his ground and wouldn't let Kamala go by him while Kamala was trying to walk around him and was being made to look like he was afraid of fighting him. Again the crowd was with Bundy. They then had an Update Segment I think the next week with Mean Gene hyping a possible match between the two. It never went anywhere though other then a few house show matches in which Kamala went over decisively which shows how hard they were pushing him at the time and also how far Bundy's stock had fallen by that point.

No relation. He just stole Peg’s nickname. He was Peggy’s Uncle Irwin in like season 2 lol What makes that even funnier is the fact that Katey Sagal is a year older then Bundy.

Yes, but not in the WWF. For whatever reason, Vince doesn't like big, heavy guys as straight babyfaces, he'd end up dancing or put in a demeaning career gimmick like wisecracking janitor that would prevent him ever being taken seriously again.

Bundy could have been a great sarcastic face, the guy had a unique wit about him that at the very least would have made him popular in the northeast. He's actually pretty underrated as a promo guy. He definitely would have had a ceiling with Hogan on top, but he could have made it work. Face Bundy vs. heel Andre would have been interesting.

No relation. He just stole Peg’s nickname. He was Peggy’s Uncle Irwin in like season 2 lol Yeah, all the original characters were named after wrestlers. Rhodes, Bundy and Al’s original co-worker was Ventura.

Midcard babyface for sure. He had the personality to get over, but I don't see him getting a big push out of it. He'd end up with Hercules, Don Muraco, Ken Patera, and the other midcard heels who turned babyface late in their run.

I always loved that the creators would talk about critics and interviewers asking if they named the family after Ted Bundy and how that was commentary on the American family and they’re just like, “It’s named after King Kong Bundy, dude.”

He loved cats. Instant babyface.
Indies here used him as a face. I think 80s Bundy in the late 90s and 2000s would work as people loved badasses by then.

I have seen him work face in a couple of indy matches toward the very end of his career, and he was a funny and charismatic guy when I got to meet him, so I would say that he definitely could.
I'm also going to say that he could have made a very good color commentator, and it would have had a very similar vibe to when Samoa Joe was on commentary.
