Typecasting is not the problem. It may be a problem. But his main problem is that he hated one or more of his costars. Hard to figure out who as he refused to take part in the 30 Rock reunion which was Harry, Markie, and Robinson. And this reboot only has Larroquette. The new one has virtually none of the original cast. Some of them are long dead. So his holding onto that is even more childish. Larroquette may be the one he hates. Who knows. But if he had enough bad experiences with the original he may not want to be part of it again regardless of who he hated and if they are dead or not.

Show works better with Dan being the only one left anyway. It’s the best part of the show, easily.
It also makes it unique among these revival/requels.

The first two episodes of this are legitimately the first network sitcom episodes I’ve watched on tv in many years. It’s crazy how fast the episodes go by. If I’ve watched any modern sitcom it’s after they are on streaming so they’d keep playing and I never really noticed how short episodes are I guess.

I'm actually really surprised the show was that big of a draw. The original Night Court's kind of one of those things where I sort of vaguely know it from people bringing it up but there hasn't really been a lot of pop cultural osmosis with it. Like if you showed me a screencap from it I don't think I could identify it and I certainly couldn't tell you the plot of any episodes or anything.
Maybe it's how much they were marketing it around, "Hey, Big Bang Theory existed, you remember it, right?" that did it.

But yeah, the only real mention of it I can remember was the 30 Rock episode.

It exists at a cross-section of being the new tv show with an actor who was just on a giant hit (Big Bang theory) and an actor returning to an iconic role. You’re drawing from two pools of people who would give it a look.

Wow, they included Lana on that list. I didn't think anybody would either remember or care enough about the season one cast to even bother with her. Not gonna lie, would love it if Billie (Ellen Foley) returned. Would love it even more if she was revealed to be Abby's mother (although yeah, I know she's not gonna be). Would also love the return of Bumper Robinson, who played Harry's foster son Leon in a few early season episodes. Abby should meet her pseudo-brother. I know he's in like his 90's and I have no idea what kind of shape he's in for an appearance, but I'd love to see John Astin reappear as Grandpa Buddy as well. Does anybody know what happened to the actor who played Art the maintenance man in the original series? As near as I can tell he hasn't done any acting since like 1995, but I can't get a read on whether or not he's still alive. If they're gonna explore Dan's past, then bringing back William Utay is a must. I believe Leslie Bevis/Sheila is still around as well if they ever get into Dan's history with women.

Prob still alive now

I watched the first 2 episodes. I liked it enough, Abby has the same way of getting a point across as Harry, especially the 'magic' story. (The magic is in the story behind it/The story is the magic.) My wife and daughter laughed at parts, so they enjoyed it.
Coincidence is that we just started watching the original series last week. My Roku TV went to crap, so we had to switch with the daughter's LG. She has the Freevee app on it, which offers the old Night Court. (And, Perfect Strangers, for you who like that sort of thing.) We're on Episode 13.

It reminded me of how good John Laroquette is as an actor. I want more courtroom shenanigans, but I get they are establishing characters. I thought it was fun and watchable.

Watched the two episodes that are out.
Loved it. But the original is also one of my favorite sitcoms of all time.

I'll give it a shot. I liked the original series when I was younger. It seems that John Larroquette is the only person returning, which is fine. The only ones who are still around, Richard Moll and Marsha Warfield, I would like to see them return in some episodes. Well Bull was abducted by aliens. I saw a Cracked article recently that asked if the new show would address this. Probably not as Richard Moll hates Night Court. I always thought it was because of the character of Bull as Moll seems to love playing villains. But apparently he hates one or more of his former costars. Maybe the ones he didnt like died though so who knows. That final d end of the finale of Night Court has anyways stuck with me. My parents sat in silence for a few seconds and then at the same time they both said “That's it???” They would have that sage reaction a number of times to shows ending.

Yeah, the later episodes got increasingly more surreal and had gags like Wile E Coyote in the courtroom and Trekkie's literally "beaming up". I dont think we'll be seeing stuff like that in this version.

The writers didn’t know they were getting another season and got caught having to throw stuff against the wall and hope it would stick, sent the show out on a low note. I binge watched Perfect Strangers recently and got the same impression from the final season.

From what I understand Richard Moll isn't an easy guy to get along with and I wasn't surprised to hear he wouldn't be part of the show.

Larroquette is definitely the best part of the show.

So I watched episode three. I really liked the stuff with Abby and Dan. Abby's big reveal did a lot to give her character some depth.
Did not like the sub-plot of "why don't I get special treatment from the police?". That seems like a pretty charged topic to be exploring on a sitcom in 2023.

You know, I never really considered the original series "edgy" or anything, but the new series feels so sanitized compared to it. The latest episode would've been a good chance to explore Dan's history of womanizing, yet it goes out of its way to dance around the subject or straight up ignore it. The twist would've worked so much better if Juliane revealed she was one of Dan's old one night stands from back in the day and was looking for revenge for that rather then just her being some random crazy woman pissed about him prosecuting her decades ago. I know the reviewers have been saying it takes a couple episodes for the show to find itself but I have really not been feeling it so far.
