I mean, a lot of people went to satellite radio to listen to shock jocks, so i don't see why they would get banned, if they are bringing in a lot of revenue. If anyone has any numbers to dispute my claims, then I'll eagerly listen. Both services are in debt but, making money. The problem comes with them (Sirius and XM) trying to merge and the government having control over that. Having someone on one of the services (guest or not) claim to want to rape a government official (or any person really) does them no favors. Sat. radio (along with all other forms of media) is under a lot of pressure to be regulated as well and this only strengths the people calling for regulations case. EDIT: I should say, that I have had XM and currently have Sirius and the lack of censorship is one reason why. I just don't want to see these companies be forced to turn into the drivel that plays locally now due to the sheer stupidity of two people who should know better than anyone that they and everyone on sat. radio are being watched like none other.

Well, really these suspensions and firings aren't done on moral grounds. It's all about money. Public radio worries about alienating advertisers and commercial radio worries about alienating subscribers. The censorship comes down to protecting the almighty buck. It's "bidness," y'all.
I don't listen to much radio, except a local classic rock station. So, I won't miss most of these dudes, anyway.

I am 100% against any and all censorship.
And that's all I'm going to say on the matter.

Okay, so this is what I learned from the thread:
1. Opie and Anthony got suspended or fired.
2. Apparently, Prince Charming raped Snow White by kissing her when she was asleep.
Okay, I'm done. GOODNIGHT, EVERYBODY!!!!

I love free speech as much as the next person, but this is self censorship and has jack to do with the First Amendment which only stops the gov't from censoring. Your boss has a lot more leeway to control what you say.
And if this as bad as I'm hearing, then they should be punished. Plus this isn't the first time they've gotten into trouble. They should have known better than to try to air this.

this has nothing to do with free speech, its about a company pulling a show because of the potencle it could cause people to stop lisning because its offensive, the govenment did jack shit, blame soicity at large.

No offense but, they always seemed to over react to me. Nothing has hit any major radio site about anything other than the suspension (no rumor of them being fired either). It would seem more likely to me that O&A quit out of anger than XM firing them.

And again, the gov't didn't do this and the gov't can't force XM to take them back. Even if O&A tried to go to court, they'd probably lose cause it's a private radio station, not a public.

No, I hate america for taking away the rights we fought for just because a few specialist groups get their panties in a bunch Bill of Rights ammendment #1: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Those are the key words that made EMB come to his conclusion. Just because there's free speech doesn't mean you have the right to say everything. You can't say fire in a crowded theater, etc...

It's really not a political issue anyway. It has to do with a radio station's decision on how to respond to bad publicity.
It's just business.

Free speech has zero to do with this. When you are employed by and a representative of a company, they are well within their rights to govern what you say during the time you represent them. When you work for a radio station, you know what lines you can and can't cross on-air.
I really think some people misunderstand what freedom of speech is.
