I have heard about this match forever and just happened to find out THIS THING IS ON YOUTUBE youtu.be/Whi7usNNd6sThis match is so good in its opening seconds that I laughed out of fear at something happening 18 years in the past What a match Kobashi is a damned sexy man. If he chopped me I'd die Amazing to see Joe look legit out of his depth and a little afraid at points If you haven't seen this match, it hasn't aged... much Wonder why these guys have concussion problems, huh? Edit: I should note this video contains three matches and the last one features the late Jay Briscoe.

Nice, is this the version with commentary? It is not, and I actually was unaware that there ever was a commentary version (if there is one).

I remember a review from back in the day, from a 411mania critic that a lot of people stereotyped as super-negative but was, in my opinion, just someone who actually justified his positions and therefore mentioned his criticisms, that outlined a lot of problems in the match, stuff that didn't look so good, Joe looking weaker than he should have based on what got used for nearfalls.
But man. I can see all of those criticisms and it doesn't detract from how much I adore this match. This is one of the biggest adrenaline-pumping experiences I've ever gotten out of wrestling.
Some of that really is just the atmosphere. The moment where Kobashi is visibly startled that this packed hotel ballroom full of wrestling nerds are welcoming him like a god, the intensity that the crowd noise gives to even the simplest exchanges - it's kind of the pinnacle of small venue pro wrestling, where it feels like this match is so huge and the audience so receptive and believing that it might as well be in the biggest stadium on the planet.
But it's also that Kenta Kobashi and Samoa Joe are both really just that good. Kobashi was always one of the best storytellers in wrestling, with the kind of charisma that elevates everything he does, and Samoa Joe is an absolute master who matched that energy.

It is not, and I actually was unaware that there ever was a commentary version (if there is one). I believe there was one recorded for one of the commercial compilations. i think Dave Prazak & Lenny Leonard did one for the Koch Best Of's way back when, and Ian Riccaboni & Todd Sinclair did one for a watch along during the pandemic:
