I can't link it since my internet is seemingly going to be out all night and I'm stuck with poor cell service but they've put out a teaser image for the Netflix series and confirmed it is coming this year. I'll be stunned if the effects in this aren't abysmal. Edit: It came back on so here it is -

The insulting descriptor of "One Piece of S***" has long gone unused thanks to the anime's quality, but given Netflix's history with previous adaptations? That may finally change.

Hoping we don't get dialogue like "It's Blackmail, as in you're black and you're male."

Reports are coming in that the first test screenings have happened, and... it doesn't sound good. From the sounds of it, the CGI is bad, and they really rush through introducing the main cast, to the point that non-fans aren't able to understand the plot. To give a specific example, the first episode apparently consists of {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} the first half being dedicated to Luffy's backstory (which itself was a full manga chapter and episode), and the second half is them blowing through introducing Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Sanji. Like, it sounds like they get to Baratie by episode three, meaning they'd have to skip the entirety of Orange Town and Syrup Village.

As I said when I first heard they were planning this: it’s going to be train carrying tnt through a minefield in slow motion level disaster. And it will be glorious.

This Greg guy has frequent contact with Oda and knows a few things about the series ahead of time, so he's pretty legit.

Even if the article is fake I expect the actual show to be a f******* trainwreck and be cancelled like two weeks after the season drops

Remember how the figurehead of the Going Merry was such a cute design and how sad most of us were when they gave the ship a burial at sea?
Now, this eldritch abomination of a figurehead cannot have fire set to it soon enough!

I can get not going one-to-one with the super cartoony design but like that'd look a million times better with a closed mouth and pupils.

So, the first official trailer just dropped:
Gotta say, it looks... alright, I guess? For the most part, the shooting locations look pretty good, and the character designs are accurate (though that Buggy looks horrible, and they didn't even try with Sanji's eyebrows or Usopp's nose).
One major quibble I do have is that, based on what dialogue is present, it seems like it's gonna have that same MCU, Cowboy Bebop problem of over-reliance on quips. Obviously, the anime has a lot of humour, but it generally has a much goofier tone, rather than sarcastic.
Also, the CGI looks kinda hit-or-miss. Like, the Sea King looks great, but the two times in the trailer that Luffy uses Gum-Gum Pistol, it looks stiff and not rubbery at all.
EDIT: so just re-watched it, and it kinda looks like part of that original "disproved" leak was right; it looks like they've smushed Shells Town, Orange Town, Syrup Village and Baratie all into one location. Though that just might be because of how the trailer is edited, but you can see Nami helping Luffy and Zoro against the Marines in Morgan's base, despite the fact that they don't meet her until Orange Town.

It looks like it's filmed on a Samsung Galaxy S6. There is no depth. Plus the colors aren't vibrant. Don't like it.

Luffy's casting seems decent. He looks good, and his voice fits how I'd imagine Luffy to sound. Very enthusiastic and upbeat. But, he doesn't seem to have Luffy's natural confidence.
Zoro though looks horrendously miscast. His appearance and his voice--just ...urgh. Not a good fit. Not a massive fan of Nami's casting so far either, but granted, we only see a little bit. But her obvious wig is obvious. Why not just cast a natural bright redhead?
CGI -- Hit and miss. Luffy using his powers is gonna look very cheap and crappy I think.
Set Pieces/Locations -- They look ok, Baratie looks good. The towns look ok, but need more colour--mkae them brighter, have the houses different colors and that sort of thing. The ship looks garbage.
Pacing issues -- I actually think quickening the pace is a good thing, to a degree. I couldn't watch the anime because it is just too slow paced, I got fed up with it. So I think trimming some of the early arcs or smushing them together makes sense overall. But, they do seem to have gone TOO far with it.
Ideally, I'd have seen one episode for each early arc, with Arlong Park being a two parter. Season 1 ending with them entering the Grand Line.
One of my concerns with the apparent quick pace is we may miss out on the crew dynamic, which is one of the best things about One Piece. Hopefully they're not rushing through juming from action piece to action piece without a breather. Give us those slower moments with the crew chilling on the ship or having a laugh with each other, Luffy and Usopp goofing off etc.
I actually need to repick up the Manga again. I enjoyed it when I read it, but I stopped reading part way through the Whole Cake Island arc and never picked it up again.

That’s bad but no way as bad as it could be? They embraced the goofy elements of East Blue as opposed to aiming for the standard OP has set as the GOAT the last few years. Terrible line reading tho I hope that’s just trailer trash lmao

I don't see it being Cowboy Bebop bad but I also don't see it being anything worthwhile...
It really feels like it fits in the "Netflix Live Action Anime" list pretty well... but a lot of people thought this one would be way different and... it sure doesn't feel like it.

In general a thing that bugs me a lot is when anime / manga adaptations try to skew too close to just sticking the character designs on the screen and calling it a day. Lot of the time it just looks like cheap cosplay and you’d be a lot better off redesigning everything to look familiar but more grounded.
An example that always springs to mind is Princess Jellyfish. The story itself is fairly grounded and realistically presented enough that it could translate to live action no problem, but they try way too hard to emulate the look of the source material so you have actors running around in giant novelty wigs that just make the who,e thing a farce.
