55. Tommy Vercetti Tommy Vercetti indicates that his father worked all his life in a printing shop and adds that years later, he still has fond childhood memories of helping his father clean the rollers. Vercetti had wanted to follow his father in the family business, but he lived a different life and instead became a criminal in the employment of the Forelli Family of the Liberty City Mafia. A possible reference that Tommy has served in the Vietnam War is made during a meeting with "Big" Mitch Baker, although it is not fully confirmed. Vercetti was sent to prison in Liberty City in 1971 for multiple counts of homicide, which apparantly totaled at eleven deaths (although Tommy was originally sent by the Don of the Forelli Family Sonny Forelli to assassinate just one man), earning him the nickname of "The Harwood Butcher", after the district concerned in Liberty City. It appears that Tommy successfully assassinated the man he was sent to kill, but was then surrounded and had to fight his way out. Tommy Vercetti was released from prison 15 years later, in 1986. Sonny Forelli quickly realized that having "The Harwood Butcher" returning to Liberty City and working on behalf of the Forelli Family would be harmful to business, so Tommy was speedily sent by Sonny to Vice City to oversee an important drug deal between the Forelli Family and the Vance Crime Family. Two Forelli soldatos, Harry and Lee, and Ken Rosenberg, a bent lawyer with Forelli Family connections, are sent to assist Tommy. The deal is supposed to be the beginning of the Forelli Family's expansion "down south", but at the exchange, concealed masked gunmen viciously murder three of the people involved in the deal (Harry, Lee and Victor Vance), stealing both the drugs and the money Tommy was charged with protecting. Vercetti narrowly escapes with Ken in their car and informs Sonny of the botched deal, who angrily demands that Tommy get back both the cocaine and the lost money, or Tommy will lose his life. Both Sonny and Tommy wish to kill those responsible for the theft. Tommy eventually teams up with Lance Vance, the surviving member of the Vance Crime Family who is seeking vengeance for the death of his brother Victor, and together they discover that Vice City's most powerful drug lord Ricardo Diaz was responsible for the ambushed deal and the death of Lance's brother. Tommy manages to infiltrate Diaz's gang stealthily, gaining Diaz's trust over time by performing multiple tasks for him. However, Lance, believing he can overpower Diaz and spurred by the death of his brother, stages a premature attempt on his life. Lance fails to kill Diaz and is captured and tortured by members of Diaz's gang in the Vice City Junkyard, before Tommy manages to rescue him, blowing his cover as a faithful Diaz gang member in the process. After Lance quickly recovers in a hospital, both men decide it would be best to forcefully invade the Diaz Mansion, in order to take Diaz out before he had them killed. Breaking in through the mansion grounds, the pair kill many of Diaz's men. Finally, in his own office, they ruthlessly murder Ricardo Diaz himself, thus exacting revenge for the ambushed deal. Tommy then assumes control of Diaz's huge mansion and its accompanying grounds, renaming it "Vercetti Estate". With Diaz out of the picture, Tommy becomes Vice City's new drug lord and sets up a huge and very successful criminal empire. Tommy then goes on to assume ownership of multiple businesses and assets within the city, and forms the very powerful Vercetti Gang in the process (of which he is the leader), becoming one of Vice City's richest, most powerful and most influential men. However, Lance begins to feel that Tommy is treating him like a child, as his brother Victor used to do, and is dissatisfied with his cut of Tommy's vast profits. Sonny Forelli eventually becomes increasingly frustrated with Tommy's refusal to comply with his wishes, constantly phoning Tommy and demanding the money and drugs from the botched deal returned (which Tommy acquired shortly after Diaz's death), along with regular cuts from Tommy's criminal empire. After it becomes clear that Tommy has officially abandonned the Forelli Family, Sonny sends collectors to attempt to forcibly take control of Vercetti's many businesses and enforcers to intimidate members of the Vercetti Gang. Their plans are immediately thwarted, however, when Tommy kills all of the collectors and enforcers before they can accomplish their goals, after which Sonny comes down to Vice City personally, accompanyed by countless Forelli Family soldatos. Pre-informed of Sonny's arrival, Tommy prepares three million counterfeit dollars to give to Sonny (having assumed control of a large printing press, he uses it to regularly print vast amounts of counterfeit cash). Sonny arrives at the Vercetti Estate with his entourage and states his disappointment that Tommy couldn't see what was "good for business"; he takes the money. Before Sonny actually leaves the mansion however, Lance Vance openly betrays Tommy and informs Sonny that the real money is in Tommy's office safe (citing business as a reason for betraying Tommy). It is also revealed then that the incident which resulted in Tommy's original imprisonment was an ambush that was orchestrated by Sonny. As a result of these multiple revelations, a huge gunfight erupts in the mansion, which leads to the the massacre of countless members of the Forelli Family, including Sonny and the traitor Lance. The final cut scene in the game depicts Tommy engaging with Ken Rosenberg, stating that as the Vercetti Gang is no longer accountable to the Liberty City Mafia; they have become the dominant criminal organization in the South. He then goes on to say that "this could be the beginning of a beautiful business relationship" between him and Ken. Following the death of Don Sonny Forelli in Vice City, the Vercetti Gang no longer holds any ties to the "North" (i.e. the Liberty City Mafia), and Vercetti emerges as the richest and most powerful crime lord in the city. While the longevity of his reign is uncertain and contested, Tommy is indicated to be in control at least up until 1992 (the date and setting of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas), when Ken Rosenberg phones him from a rehab clinic on the outskirts of Las Venturas. Rosenberg tries to get in touch with his old boss in The Introduction prequel machinima film in order to find work, only to be turned away several times by one of Vercetti's associates, as Vercetti has apparently abandoned him and no longer takes his calls. Their relationship is considered dissolved.

54. King King is a famous luchador from Mexico. There are actually two Kings in the series, both of whom wore a jaguar mask in matches. The first used to be a ruthless street brawling orphan with no care in the world except fighting. In one of his fights, King was grievously wounded and collapsed in front of a monastery. The Marquez priests saved him from death. After recovering, King realized the error of his ways and resolved to start a new life. He became a Catholic priest and renounced his old fighting ways. He then became a man with a mission; he dreamt of building an orphanage for street children, hoping to save them from becoming the kind of person he used to be. King has one problem, however. He lacks the necessary funds to achieve his dream. King discovers The King of Iron Fist Tournament and hopes to win the prize money. King enters the tournament and manages to get third place, winning enough prize money for the orphanage. He also met his rival, Armor King. King won enough money and had his orphanage, which became very successful. After a child dies in his care, King became depressed and, giving up his jaguar mask, returned to the street and became a raging alcoholic. He would have perished had he not been convinced by his old friend, Armor King, to again wear the jaguar mask and join The King of Iron Fist Tournament 2. King trained intensely and recovered from his alcoholicism. He battled Armor King at the tournament and lost. After the tournament, King participated in both pro-wrestling and martial arts tournaments to win money for his orphanage. He also taught his fighting skills to the children under his care as a means of self-defense. Sometime later on, Ogre, the God Of Fighting, was awakened from an ancient ruin in Mexico by Heihachi Mishima's Tekken Force. Ogre attacked several martial artists around the world, including King, who was supposedly killed afterwards. A street urchin was brought up in a Mexican orphanage owned by the original fighter to bear the name 'King.' By the age of 24, this wrestler worked hard with King until one day, news broke of King's tragic death by unknown hands. Seeing that the orphanage would crumble into ruin (the money gained from King's wrestling matches was the only funding received), this man donned the mask of King and imitated his style. Unfortunately, he had only seen King's wrestling moves as a child, and he lost every competition he entered. One day however, another man with a mask visited the new King, introducing himself as an old friend. This man revealed himself to be Armor King, who was interested in finding out if the rumors of a new King were true. For four years the two of them trained, and the new King learned quickly; maturing into a forceful wrestler with extreme power, known as King the Second. By this time, the now 28 years old was a worthy heir to the throne, however he longed to punish the one responsible for the original King's death. With rumors of the "God of Fight" circulating, Armor King revealed that the illusive entity was the one most likely responsible. While the grim truth would forever be hidden under his depression, Armor King watched as the new King, fueled with rage, set his sights on avenging his former master's death and proving himself worthy of wearing the mask. King discovered that his master, Armor King, had been killed in a bar fight. The perpetrator, Craig Marduk, had been arrested in Arizona and was sent to prison. Upon Marduk's release (thanks to bribes paid by King himself), King sent a letter challenging Marduk to the tournament in Tekken 4. He defeated Marduk in Tekken 4, sending him to the hospital, where King followed him to deliver a deadly blow. However, he stopped after seeing a portrait of Marduk and his elderly parents. King let him live, realizing how foolish he had become. King is later enraged to find out that Marduk has been defeating opponents in a black jaguar mask (identical to Armor King's), and he has issued a televised challenge to King for The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5. Seeing Marduk disgrace his master, King steps into the ring once again to settle the score once and for all.

53. Andross Andross is the main villain of the Star Fox series. As explained in Star Fox Command and Star Fox 64, Andross was once a brilliant scientist working for Corneria. Although his intentions were pure and beneficial towards Corneria and the rest of the Lylat System, his lust for power drove him to the brink of madness. During one of his "bio-weapon" experiments, Andross unleashed a devastating explosion that apparently leveled a great deal of Corneria city. Fearing Andross could possibly destroy the whole planet, General Pepper of the Cornerian Army caught wind of his potential, and banished him to the planetary wasteland of Venom. As the years progressed, Andross began building forces on Venom, as well as conducting various threatening experiments on himself. Andross soon became a twisted shell of his former self, driven by insanity. His thoughts and intentions shifted from protecting Lylat, to making it his own, to eventually destroying it and ruling a new empire under his name. General Pepper eventually received interesting and conflicting reports of bizarre events in Venomian airspace. The general hired the Star Fox mercenary team to investigate. Soon, all three pilots (James McCloud, Peppy Hare, and Pigma Dengar) were probing Venom's skies. When they arrived, Pigma betrayed the team and joined Andross. James and Peppy tried to escape, but only Peppy was successful. This left Peppy with the inenviable task of telling James' son, Fox, about his father's fate. Back on Venom, Andross proclaimed himself emperor of the planet Venom and soon the entire Lylat System. With an army of mass-produced androids, bio-mechanical warriors, anthropromorphic lizards and apes, as well as hired thugs like the Star Wolf Team, Andross unleashed a blitzkrieg on his neighboring worlds. Fox McCloud was forced to hastily step into his father's shoes and lead a new Star Fox team against Andross. With Peppy Hare, Slippy Toad, and Falco Lombardi at his side, Fox battled across the Lylat System to stop Andross, but in the end it was Fox alone who flew into the depths of Venom to face Andross. Andross appears in several different forms throughout the Star Fox series, the most common of which is a giant disembodied head (accompanied by a pair of hands, except in the original Star Fox). In Star Fox 64, Andross' first form is a giant head with 2 hands. After dealing enough damage, Andross will take on his second form. On the easy path, it is a giant robotic head (a fake Andross). On the hard path, it is a giant brain with 2 disembodied eyes. After defeating his second form, Andross initiated his final defense. He set off a time bomb intended to destroy Fox. (If the player only fought the robotic head, the bomb is then only meant to cover Andross' retreat. Otherwise, it is truly meant to kill Fox.) However, Fox is led out of the base by a being which appears to be his father, though it is unknown if it is really him, a ghost, or a vision. Andross did not survive the destruction of his Venom base. Weak and wounded, reduced to a disembodied spirit, Andross fled to the planet Sauria (Sauria is only known as the Dinosaur Planet in Star Fox Adventures.) There he was able to enlist followers among the Sharpclaw clan of dinosaurs to keep him alive, but not much more. For eight long years Andross tried to revive himself, failing time and time again. This was at least partially due to his mistrust of his Sharpclaw helpers, particularly their nominal leader, General Scales. Scales would happily take Andross' power for his own at the drop of a hat. Finally, Andross found a solution. To Scales' delight, Andross gave the dinosaur all the power that Scales had long coveted. The domination of Sauria was within Scales' grasp. And Andross' price seemed simple. All he wanted was a couple of artifacts and the capture of a young blue-furred vixen named Krystal, the only survivor of the lifeless planet Cerinia. Unknown to Scales was that Krystal had the ability to channel the long-forgotten Krazoa power. Said power was contained in the artifacts Scales was gathering for Andross as well. Unaware he was being duped, Scales succeeded in acquiring most of the Krazoa Spirits and reducing Krystal to be Fox's damsel in distress. Andross trapped Krystal, in a truly ironic fashion, inside a large crystal and sent her atop the Krazoa Palace. Andross then proceeded to steal her life-force, in order to restore his own. Rebels to Scales' rule sent out a distress call that General Pepper did not ignore. His own troops spread thin, Pepper once again hired Star Fox to dive into the breach. Unfortunately for all concerned, team Star Fox was a pale shadow of its former self. Only Fox himself remained on active duty. Once on the planet's surface, Fox found a helper in the form of a local named Tricky. Together the duo fought a two-animal war against General Scales and his forces. Finally, Fox and Tricky defeated Scales himself only to unveil Andross as the dinosaur's puppet master. The duo raced to release Krystal from her imprisonment atop Krazoa Palace. They succeeded, but it seemed the damage had been done; Andross awakened. Fox quickly boarded his Arwing starfighter to battle Andross once again. Infused with the great Krazoa power, Andross had Fox on the brink of defeat until Falco appeared. Fox's old wingman rejoined the Star Fox team, not to mention the battle, and Andross was defeated once again. Andross's legacy lives on his nephew, Andrew Oikonny, who wishes to defend his uncle and bring light to a new Lylat. Andrew, however, lacked the same mind as his uncle, and as such, he ignored the true intentions of Andross, and only desired to bring a stop to the current form of Corneria. Also, it is revealed in Star Fox Command that Andross had a grandson named Dash. Andross seems to want his grandson to carry on his legacy, because if the player fights Andross with Dash, he will respond "What are you doing?! This is my grandson I'm fighting here!" However, in the "Dash Makes a Choice" ending in Star Fox Command, Dash goes on to turn Venom into a thriving planet which soon comes to match Corneria in its environment (after much terraforming) and scientific expertise. But soon Dash starts to feel the need for power that Andross felt, and he makes a speech to all the citizens about how it's "Venom's time" and he starts a war with Corneria, just like Andross. He also starts to slightly resemble Andross in appearance as he ages through the ending. Andross is known as Andorf in the Japanese versions of the games. His original Star Fox and Star Fox 64 forms are seen as an unlockable trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

52. Ken Masters When Ken was about 12 years old, his father, a rich hotel tycoon, thought that his son needed to learn about discipline, lest his son become a spoiled brat all of his life and try to leech onto the Masters family fortune. In order to do so, the elder Masters sent Ken to Japan to train under his best friend, the mysterious karate master Gouken. At first, Ken was very hesitant to learn from Gouken, wanting to go back to the United States, but later began to respect his master. He even enjoyed the company of Gouken's adopted son, Ryu, since he had a foil to finally pull pranks on, although this got Ken into a lot of trouble. Ryu and Ken would later become best friends and each other's principal rivals. When Ryu was 23, Gouken decided that both of his pupils had grown up to be fine fighters and decided that their training was over and could now leave the dojo. Ryu decided to travel the world in order to continue his training, whereas Ken was finally happy to be going back home to the United States after his years of straining his back for master Gouken and finally learning the meaning of humility. After coming home, Ken competed in many different Martial Arts tournaments held in the United States, winning most of them. Ken did not participate in the first Street Fighter tournament; instead, he fought in (and won) the premiere U.S. Martial Arts tournament that had been previously won by Charlie, as well as meeting a very attractive girl named Eliza, who became his girlfriend. After winning the U.S. martial arts tournament, Ken returned to his training ground to tell his master Gouken the good news, he witnessed his master's death at the hands of Akuma, and tried to fight him, but was defeated. He began wandering the world in search of Akuma, and his friend and fellow student Ryu. He wanted to tell Ryu what happened to their master and also hoped to win a match against him. Along the way, he fought and defeated Dan, who had unwisely taunted him with copying Saikyo-style moves. He eventually finds Ryu in seclusion. Ryu is dejected upon seeing his long-time friend, but Ken makes him go try out a spar anyway. Over the next few days, Ken realizes how stressed out his best friend is since his fight with Sagat. Ryu explains to Ken that deep within him there is a burning rage- a power trying to overcome him. Giving Ryu his red headband, Ken tells him to stay focused, which greatly cheers Ryu up. Ken returns home and begins training harder. Knowing even with his recent feelings, that Ryu is always stronger than he looks. Ken begins to wonder about his own life. Ryu seemed to be on the right track again, but what of him? Along the way to prove himself again, he encounters Karin who tells him she has followed his career and is trying to best her rival Sakura's to prove she is superior. Ken advises her it's good to have a rival, but not for supremacy, but to keep on training harder and focusing. With this, Ken finds himself again and is focused once more. Going off to meet up with Sakura, they too have a friendly match and Ken finally realizes that Ryu has the right idea all along. Both he and Sakura begin to travel to find Ryu, but find out that he's being brainwashed by the dictator M. Bison. Ken and Sakura both take Bison on together to distract him as Sagat (who had come along to also find Ryu struggling against Bison) took Ryu under control. Ryu eventually came to and slammed Bison away with the help of Ken, then talked to each of his friends — he told Ken to wait for his rematch, noting he still had much to learn. Ken himself promised to train harder. Ken received an invitation to the second Street Fighter tournament, but since his last U.S. Martial Arts tournament, he had let himself spend too much time with his girlfriend, Eliza, rather than training. Only Ryu's personal challenge rekindled Ken's fighting spirit and persuaded him to enter the second World Warrior tournament. After the events of Street Fighter II, Ken is married to Eliza, something he vowed only to do after winning a decisive victory against Ryu, leading much speculation to a victory on Ken's part between the World Tournament and Street Fighter III. Ken then entered the third Street Fighter tournament. By this time, a Brazilian teenager named Sean had been pestering him to become his student, and Ken reluctantly accepted, beginning to train him. He fought Sean and won against him in the tournament; having defeated Ryu again, Ken commemorates his victory by beginning to train his son Mel in rudimentary fighting techniques. He also told Sean to go find Ryu and challenge him, giving him some free time with Eliza. Though bored, Ken hears about a mysterious organization and goes to investigate, and may have confronted Urien. He does win his third straight U.S. Martial Arts tournament victory, which is a new record, and offers the trophy to Sean, although his student says he wishes to earn it for himself. He also learned that Ryu had sought him out and traveled all the way to New York from Oakland for their long-awaited rematch. Tossing some friendly jabs at each other, both have a good fight that Ryu wins. Since then, Ken has continued to train Sean and Mel, handle his family and business, and keep up with his old friend Ryu.

51. Phoenix Wright Phoenix became an attorney because he was saved by Miles Edgeworth and Larry Butz during a class trial back when he was in the fourth grade. The three became fast friends, Edgeworth boring them with about how his father was a great defense attorney and how he aspired to be one in later life. Because of the DL-6 Incident, Edgeworth left town. It was a quite a few years later that Phoenix heard Edgeworth's name again, he saw a story in a paper with the headline "Dark Suspicions of A Demon Attorney." The article said that Prosecutor Edgeworth was suspected of tampering with witnesses and fabricating evidence. Despite the fact that Phoenix attempted to contact him, he was ignored. And that's when Phoenix decided that if he was an attorney, Edgeworth would have to meet him whether he liked it or not, in court. Between these two events, Phoenix was framed for the murder of his girlfriend's ex while in college. He was defended by Mia Fey, who hadn't taken a case since she lost to Edgeworth a year before. Mia exposes the true murderer in both cases, Phoenix's girlfriend, Dahlia, which Phoenix finds hard to believe. Dahlia's true colours are revealed, and she is convicted for both murders. After getting his law degree, Phoenix works for Mia in her own law offices. His first case involved clearing his childhood friend Larry's name, which he does after finding starking contradictions in the testimony of the prosecution's witness. In a single day Phoenix proves that the witness is in fact the real murderer, thus clearing Larry's name. Larry celebrates by giving Mia a clock identical to the murder weapon, saying that he made both of them, one for himself, one for Cindy. Not long afterwards, the clock is used by a businessman/blackmailer named Redd White to kill Mia. White also frames her younger sister, Maya, with the murder. Phoenix defends Maya after Grossberg refuses. After finding out that the witness, April May, had checked into the hotel with a man, he goes to track him down. The man in question turns out to be White. After getting no information, he goes to Grossberg, realising that White had been blackmailing the lawyer. Grossberg reveals that Mia has been tracking White's movements for some time, which gives White a clear motive for Mia's murder. However, after proving that he knows this to White, White calls the police and states that Phoenix is the true murderer. The next day, Phoenix defends himself after refusing to take a state attorney after a threat from White that he will get an attorney that will be bound to get him a guilty verdict. However, when he thought he had White cornered, his only evidence is thrown out the window, however, a contradiction is pointed out by Mia through Maya. After presenting this, Mia also gives Phoenix a list to read out, which turns out to be a list of people White has blackmailed. Mia threatens White that she will hand the list to the press if he doesn't admit his guilt. White confesses, and Phoenix is proven innocent. After this case, Maya becomes Phoenix's partner, in the DS version of Gyakuten Saiban (Or Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney) an extra case was added between Case 4 of the first game and case 2 (which was chronologically before case 1) of the second game. This is the only case where a living member of the Fey family comes to his aid (although Mia is briefly seen giving Phoenix a hint). In Justice for All Maya was unavailable on two occasions (once due to being the defendant, once due to kidnap), however, Maya's cousin, Pearl, was there to help him. Two months after clearing Ayame's name, Tensai Arumajiki, a famous magician, was killed while in hospital. The suspect was one of his students, Zakku Arumajiki. Zakku prided himself in being able to read people. When Kirihito Garyuu asked to defend him, he challenged Kirihito to a game of poker. Kirihito lost, and Zakku refused. Later, he performed the same test on Phoenix. Phoenix won the game and Zakku accepted him as his attorney. Kirihito found out, furious that he lost to Phoenix through something as trivial as a game of poker, he forged a page from Tensai's journal and handed it to a young Minuki to give to Phoenix. At the same time, he told his younger brother, Kyouya, that Phoenix was going to use fraudulent evidence. In court, Phoenix used the page, and Kyouya countered with evidence that it was fabricated. The statement stood, Phoenix was stripped of his badge and just before Zakku was given the verdict, he disappeared from the stand with the help of Minuki and her puppet, Mr. Hat. Phoenix then took in the girl and raised her as if she were his daughter. Seven years later, Zakku returned as Kagerou Urefushi, in the meantime, Phoenix worked as a professional poker player (he claimed to be a piano player, but he can't really play). Zakku hired a professional con artist named Masaka to ruin Phoenix's reputation as an unbeatable player. They would slip an extra ace into Phoenix's hand and then find it, implying that Phoenix was a cheat. Masaka failed, and Zakku knocked him out. Phoenix went upstairs to call the police. Kirihito, having seen this, and fearing that Zakku would reveal that he was going to defend Zakku first, killed Zakku/Kagerou with a bottle that already had Phoenix's fingerprints, framing him for murder. When Phoenix came to check on Masaka, he realised what happened, and made a plan to catch Kirihito out. At first, he made Kirihito think he was going to be defending Phoenix, but somewhere in between, asked that Kirihito's understudy, Housuke Odoroki, defend him instead. Kirihito was indicted as the murderer and Phoenix was cleared of all charges. After this, Phoenix takes over as Odoroki's mentor while Minuki acts as Odoroki's counterpart to Maya.

Geez, how many people voted? I'm seeing a bunch of the guys I picked. Is it because there weren't many to choose from or do I share good tastes? Well, I haven' t seen a lot of mine yet, even though I didn' t send a complete list ( I had like 13 characters in my list ), and only King from the Tekken series appeared for now... you could also say Tommy Vercetti, as I can' t believe I forgot to put him in my list since even though I prefer GTA SA, Tommy > CJ ( but CJ > the other GTA main characters until VC )

50. Axel Stone (Guy In The Center) Playable character in all the games, Axel is the front man of the series. A police detective in first and second games, he quit the force at the end of the second game and opened his own karate dojo in the outskirts of the city, although in the Japanese Bare Knuckle 3 storyline he is actually transferred to the Special Investigation department. He turns slowly from an all-around to a bruiser in the end of the series. In the later games, his special attacks are a 360 degree flaming punch (Dragon Wing) and a punch/uppercut combo (Dragon Smash). His blitz attack is a flaming uppercut named Grand Upper (which was renamed to Bare Knuckle for SoR3, maybe as an in-joke). It was toned down considerably in SoR3 due to its excessive power in SoR2.

48. K' KŒ was a normal human being before the cloning operation, though nothing is known of his life at that time. As a child, KŒ was taken away by the NESTS agents, as the experiment subject for the prototype. He would be infused with Kusanagi power, and then the NESTS cartel would prove how feasible it was to inject the immense Kusanagi power in a human being. They succeeded, but only in part. While KŒ inherited the immense Kusanagi flames, he is unable to sustain so much power. Thus, KŒ's creators decide to place a special glove on his hand so KŒ can wield the power with no problem at all. Since K' was to become Krizalid, but was an incomplete clone, he was left with his incomplete name: KŒ. NESTS also altered KŒ's memory, and the only thing KŒ remembers of his past life is a little girl that kept calling him "brother" and cried out for him. But this memory only exists in dreams now. After activation, KŒ was ordered by Krizalid to join Maxima and team up with Benimaru Nikaido and Shingo Yabuki in order to enter the King of Fighters tournament and collect battle data from the fighters of the competition in order to activate the Kyo Kusanagi clones around the world. The new Hero Team meets Krizalid in a sewer as arranged for one last battle, and KŒ determined to use of this opportunity to take the man down. However, he turned out to be very outclassed, and it took intervention from Kyo Kusanagi to end Krizalid. None-too-pleased to meet the man who, in a sense, has made him into who he now is, K' challenges Kyo to a fight. Before the battle ends, steel blast doors separate the two, and after defying the NESTS cartel once more, the Hero Team narrowly escapes the assaulting Ikari extermination squad. For the next year, KŒ and Maxima continued to run from both the Ikari Warriors (hunting them as fugitive criminals) and the NESTS cartel (hunting them as traitors). KŒ decides to deal with pursuers by cleaning up his image in KoF 2000. Vanessa and a Mexican wrestler called Ramon offer to team up with them. Though KŒ does not trust them in the least, he grudgingly accepts her assistance anyway. He also begins to have nightmares about a lonely young girl screaming for him, her "brother". In addition, as the Hero Team arrives in Southtown for their final fight in the tournament, he is heavily plagued by deja vu. Upon arriving in an empty warehouse, he senses an intruder and tells Maxima to lead the other two out. Now alone, he is confronted by a young woman dressed much like he is. She calls herself the "Anti-KŒ". The two fight, and KŒ discovers that their attacks and similar fighting styles are essentially cancelling each other out. His power and stamina fading, KŒ manages one last powerful blast of fire. To his surprise, the young woman is still standing - badly burnt, but smiling kindly. She introduces herself as Kula Diamond, and explains that she is under orders to stop Zero, a megalomaniac NESTS agent who intends to use the Zero Cannon to destroy his superiors. When KŒ arrived, Zero had trashed his teammates, but had taken his share of blows as well - Lin had poisoned him, and Maxima also taxed Zero heavily. Despite his own fatigue, KŒ is able to best Zero and escape Southtown before the Zero Cannon fires. They are approached afterwards by a familiar figure. When she calls out KŒ's name, it removes all doubts as to who she is - KŒ's sister is Whip, a member of the Ikari Warriors. As a meteor shower consumes Southtown, KŒ decides to discard his protective glove despite Maxima's warnings. To everyone's surprise, KŒ's flaming power does not go out of control. He appears to have finally learned how to control the legendary crimson flames of the Kusanagi (though this is questionable - he is later shown putting on a new glove salvaged from one of the NESTS bases he destroyed alongside Maxima and Whip). Throughout his trips to several NESTS bases located around the world, accompanied by Whip and Maxima, KŒ finds something very suspicious: the bases they have tried to raid for such a long time are now deserted. He begins to suspect that someone is tracking their steps. During a raid on yet another abandoned NESTS building, he stumbles upon Lin, who has also been tracking NESTS in search of a traitor to his clan, Ron. Whip suggests taking him in to enter the next King of Fighters tournament, where NESTS will finally reveal themselves to the world. KŒ couldn't care less about Lin, but wondered why NESTS would go public after destroying a city. In the next tournament, KŒ is exceptionally motivated to finally confront and take down NESTS, and rolls all the way to the final battle aboard a blimp. On board is the original Zero - the one they defeated a year ago was merely a clone. While his friends dealt with Zero's companions, K' focused on Zero. Despite being superior to his clone, Zero still loses to K', but accepts his defeat as a true warrior. The blimp docks with a space station and falls to Earth, but not before Zero tells them to get into the station. On board, KŒ meets Igniz, the ambitious leader of NESTS who intends to rule the world. In the fashion of the arrogant evil overlord, Igniz explains the project that involved the use of Kyo Kusanagi's DNA. KŒ, Kula and Krizalid were all products of that experiment, with the final product being an entirely artificial being called K9999. He then challenges KŒ to a battle after giving KŒ some of the memories he had lost for many years out of a desire to see a self-aware "clone". Igniz overpowered KŒ for the majority of the fight, but made the mistake of enraging KŒ by completely restoring his memories. This act of spite caused KŒ to rock the entire space station and nearly incinerate Igniz with a powerful fire attack. Igniz, however, manages to set off a self-destruct sequence that causes the space station to crash into Earth. During the seemingly fatal fall, Kula Diamond (also on board) releases all of her ice powers at this time, allowing them to endure the passage through the atmosphere. After escaping from the space station which crashed into the ocean, K' swims towards land, and encounters Kula along the way, entirely exhausted. They decide to set aside their old differences and help each other to safety. KŒ even fends off K9999 and Angel, who have come to eliminate the errant former NESTS agents (both KŒ and Kula). Afterwards, Lin leaves the team to continue his search for Ron. Maxima tells KŒ that he will be leaving as well, to pay respects to his dead friend (who was killed by NESTS). KŒ himself is left to wonder what will become of his future (as well as Kula's) in the aftermath of the NESTS cartel. After the fall of NESTS, KŒ and Maxima had continued to live out their lives in a vagabond manner. Whip returned to the Ikari Warriors, and Kula remained with her guardian from NESTS, Diana. However, in 2003, a new King of Fighters tournament was announced. KŒ had no interest, loathing the tournament, but was approached by Chin Gentsai of the Psycho Soldiers. Chin, sensing an evil power brooding, requested K' enter the tournament. KŒ reacted angrily, but was calmed by Maxima, who convinced him to consider the matter. Not long after, KŒ's sister called, requesting that they join a team with her, under orders from her commanding officer, Heidern. KŒ relented, and entered the tournament. While KŒ found nothing of personal interest in the tournament, he did encounter several villainous figures that filled him with a sense of foreboding. He cast these feelings to the side, but no sooner had he done this then his flames began to run out of control for the first time in years. Once he finally managed to get his powers under control, Maxima asked him if his glove was malfunctioning. However, KŒ replied that the problem didn't lie with the glove, but at the root of Kyo's powers. Though his meaning was unclear, his interest in the unfolding events was piqued. As the next tournament arrived, Whip joined the Ikari Warrior once more, taking the place of her superior, Leona, who was unable to participate. At Whip's suggestion, Kula was called and asked to join KŒ's team, which would again participate in the tournament under orders of Heidern. During the tournament, a frightening figure named Magaki was revealed as the host. However, after Magaki's death, KŒ and the Ikari Warriors brought biological samples of him to Heidern. At the debriefing that followed on the Ikari Warriors plane, there was an attack, which ceased when Heidern agreed to leave with two of the assailants. This is all of the storyline involving KŒ at this time.

47. Axel Axel, "Flurry of Dancing Flames", who utilizes a pair of chakram, as well as fire with the Assassin Nobodies under his control, appears in both Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II. Axel is a strong fighter, and can create walls of fire or throw his weapons. In Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Axel pretends to join with Larxene and Marluxia in their plan to seize control of the Organization using Sora. To gain their trust, he assassinates Vexen when ordered by Marluxia to rid them of "traitors". Afterwards, to derail Marluxia's plans, Axel sets Naminé free so that she can reveal to Sora the truth about how she manipulated his memory. Eventually, Axel confronts Marluxia, prepared to destroy him. Marluxia uses Naminé as a shield to keep Axel at bay, though Axel resolves to go through anyone, even Naminé. When Sora makes a sudden appearance, Marluxia vanishes with Naminé, leaving Sora to fight Axel. Sora defeats Axel, after which he states the existence of their relation before vanishing, letting Sora believe him to be gone for good. After Marluxia is defeated by Sora, Axel enlists the aid of the Riku Replica that Vexen created to get rid of Zexion in Castle Oblivion's basement levels. In Kingdom Hearts II, Axel attempts to rescue Roxas from DiZ's virtual Twilight Town. Despite Axel's efforts, Roxas merges with Sora. Later, acting separately from the Organization, Axel kidnaps Kairi to bait Sora to him. However, Saïx takes her away so the Organization can use her to fuel Sora's anger. During a visit to Twilight Town, Saïx warns Sora that Axel desires to turn him into a Heartless. Axel appears after the Heartless invasion of Hollow Bastion to Sora, and informs him that Organization XIII has been using him to get hearts. He then apologizes for getting Kairi involved. Before he elaborates, Saїx appears and Axel promptly flees. Axel finds Sora in a pathway to the World That Never Was and chooses to fight Nobodies with him. The numbers get overwhelming and Axel performs a kamikaze attack to save Sora. Fading away, Axel apologizes for kidnapping Kairi and asks Sora to rescue her. When asked what he was trying to do, Axel admits he wanted to see Roxas, who made him feel like he had a heart, and Sora made him feel the same way. With the last of his strength, Axel opens an entrance to the World That Never Was. Three added scenes in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix feature Axel. In the first, he receives orders to bring back or kill Roxas, and the second features Riku putting Naminé in Axel's care. The third takes place after Sora defeats Roxas, in which Axel and Roxas say a final farewell to one another in Roxas' conscience.

46. Sub-Zero Sons of a Chinese father and a Caucasian American mother. It is known that the father of both brothers (the fourth man to be known as Sub-Zero in his lineage) was a secret operative for the clan in the United States. He married an American woman and together they had two sons and a daughter. Against the will of their mother, the father took the sons with him to move back to China at a certain time, and as such both brothers became warriors of the Lin Kuei. The mother and the daughter remained in the U.S. Following the death of his older brother and failure to kill Shang Tsung, the young Lin Kuei warrior was sent to Outworld along with his close friend Smoke to complete the assignment after Shao Kahn's Mortal Kombat tournament was announced. While traveling to Outworld with Smoke, Sub-Zero discovered Scorpion's foul vendetta against his brother; Scorpion had risen from the Netherealm once more upon learning of Sub-Zero's "survival" and continued to hold a grudge against the new Sub-Zero, believing him to be the same man that killed him years ago. However, Scorpion received a rude awakening when he witnessed Sub-Zero spare the life of a defeated opponent whom he battled during the tournament, which left him confused for he did not understand why this Lin Kuei warrior showed mercy. Scorpion then came to the realization that this new Sub-Zero was the younger brother of the man who murdered him so long ago, and thus swore not to harm him. Sub-Zero never learned why the specter spared his life. Despite their efforts, neither accomplished the mission that they were tasked to do for the Lin Kuei, although they did assist Liu Kang, Raiden, and their allies in Liu Kang's battle with Shao Kahn. Smoke and Sub-Zero returned home empty handed. In the events leading up to Mortal Kombat Trilogy, the Lin Kuei obtained technology that could vastly improve the effectiveness of their warriors, and they chose four of their number to undergo the procedure that would turn them into cyborg assassins: Sub-Zero, Smoke, Cyrax, and Sektor. Sub-Zero and Smoke refused to participate, and fled the clan, who declared them anathema. While Sub-Zero successfully managed to escape, Smoke was captured and subsequently turned into a cyborg. In leaving the clan, Sub-Zero had broken the Lin Kuei codes of honor. After Smoke's automation, the Lin Kuei programmed the three cyborg assassins to hunt and terminate Sub-Zero, who by this time had received a vision from Raiden and agreed to join the rebellion against a new threat. The armies of Shao Kahn attacked Earthrealm, and Sub-Zero was among the few mortals whose souls were spared so they could fight Kahn and his extermination squads. These events also signalled the beginning of Sub-Zero's transition to a greater moral consciousness. Unluckily for Sub-Zero, his cybernetic assassins, lacking souls, also survived. Sub-Zero eventually encountered Smoke and convinced him that he still had a soul, which then overrode Smoke's Lin Kuei programming. With his new ally, Sub-Zero battled and defeated both Sektor and Cyrax. However, instead of destroying Cyrax's CPU, he reprogrammed the cyborg to hunt and terminate Shao Khan (at which Cyrax failed - he would wander in Jade's Desert and become trapped there). Smoke was less fortunate: he was captured by Shao Kahn's troops and transported to Outworld as a curiosium. Eventually, the Earthrealm warriors were victorious and Earth was restored to its normal state. When the banished Elder God Shinnok threatened the Earthrealm, Raiden once again summoned Sub-Zero to assist in the defense of Earth. In homage to his older brother, Sub-Zero donned his sibling's uniform, and brought to the battle information passed to him which could prove essential to Raiden in his mission to stop Shinnok. In the meantime, Quan Chi had convinced Scorpion that Sub-Zero still retained some culpability for the destruction of the Shirai Ryu, turning the spectre's hostile attentions to him once more. Sub-Zero met Scorpion in Goro's Lair and the two fought, with Scorpion gaining the upper hand. When it seemed that Scorpion was going to kill Sub-Zero, the Lin Kuei revealed that he had no role in the murder of Scorpion's clan. Quan Chi, convinced that Sub-Zero was about to die nonetheless, readily admitted his guilt to Scorpion, who then turned on Quan Chi and transported the sorcerer into the Netherrealm, where Scorpion hunted Quan Chi unceasingly. This was to be the last time Scorpion and Sub-Zero were to actively oppose each other. Some time afterwards, the defeated cyborg Sektor assassinated the Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei and challenged Sub-Zero to a fight for the leadership of the Lin Kuei Clan. Realizing how great an opportunity this was, as well as recognizing Sektor as a threat, Sub-Zero accepted the cyborg's challenge and defeated him, gaining the position. Sub-Zero also came into possession of the Dragon Medallion, which enhanced his freezing powers to levels he had never thought possible (as a side effect, it appears, it also changed his appearance). Great changes were made to the Lin Kuei after Sub-Zero's victory. He moved the Lin Kuei to a remote area in the Arctic where they would not be disrupted and began training them as a force for good, teaching his students not only formidable fighting skills, but the value of life as well, turning them into wisened warriors rather than mindless assassins. Sub-Zero held a tournament at the Lin Kuei headquarters in order to recruit strong warriors, and a female who surprisingly harnessed the same freezing powers as Sub-Zero emerged as the winner. Impressed by her exceptional skill, Sub-Zero made Frost his apprentice, breaking Lin Kuei tradition. While she was a superb fighter, Frost did not agree with Sub-Zero's philosophies and appeared arrogant and aloof, which would generate some friction between her and Sub-Zero's allies, specifically Sonya. After Liu Kang's murder at the hands of the newly formed Deadly Alliance, Raiden asked Sub-Zero to join him to fight for Earthrealm's survival. Surprised at the tragic news, Sub-Zero agreed, but mainly for personal reasons - he wanted to gain the respect of his fellow Lin Kuei and prove his worth once again to his clan and to most importantly, himself. When Sub-Zero and Frost were separated from the other Earthrealm warriors on Outworld, Frost attempted to steal the Dragon Medallion. Unable to control the medallion's powerful energies, she was consumed by her own freezing abilities and seemingly died. Sub-Zero placed the blame squarely on his own shoulders for her death, feeling he had failed to dampen her pride and teach her the same philosophies of life he had. As he searched for a place to bury Frost, he encountered the ruins of an Outworld civilization capable of manipulating cold. After careful study and examination of this race, the cryomancers, he came to the realization that he and Frost were descendants of this race. Burying her and forgiving her for her rashness, Sub-Zero donned an ancient suit of armor found in the ruins and headed for the Earthrealm portal, to rendezvous with Raiden and the Earthrealm forces. Sub-Zero's Deception ending portrays him being ambushed by Tarkatans in the living forest. Unlike the other characters, whose true fate in Deception is unknown, it seems this ending almost certainly occurred, since Hotaru's bio states he began tracking Sub-Zero after he had "slain many Tarkata." This conclusion is also echoed in Kenshi's bio, whom Sub-Zero meets on his journey to the rendezvous point. As Shujinko rallied Earths remaining warriors to defeat the new threat in Onaga Sub-Zero once again ventured back into the Outworld where he soon ran into Sareena. Since she helped free his brother from his confines of the Netherrealm and also helped defeat Quan Chi with him so many years ago, Sub-Zero offered her asylum within the Lin Kuei. Sub-Zero gave Sareena a small metallic object that would guide her and grant her access to the hidden Lin Kuei temple. The two then spotted two dark figures leaving Shao Kahn’s fortress, it was Sub-Zero’s brother Noob Saibot and his good friend Smoke, the two disapeared into the Netherealm. Sub-Zero ordered Sareena to wait for him at Lin Kuei temple as he ventured after the two, however Noob and Smoke knew they were being followed and attacked Sub-Zero in the Netherealm. It appeared the Grandmaster was overpowered and doomed until Sareena jumped in fending off Sub-Zero’s would be assassins but not before Sub-Zero was left unconscious, but upon waking Sareena had reverted back to her demonic form, dazed and still very confused Sub-Zero attacked and Sareena fled to the depths of the Netherealm. Mortal Kombat: Unchained also revealed that upon returning to the Lin Kuei temple in Earthrealm, Sub-Zero discovers many of his fellow Lin Kuei slain by a highly delusional Frost, who was in reality still very much alive when he buried her, and had now returned seeking revenge. Sub-Zero then froze the highly unstable Frost in a solid block of ice and placed her frozen body in a shrine deep in the temple, with the knowledge that she will one day recover, and, on that day, will have to answer for her crimes against the Lin Kuei. Sub-Zero appears in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon's konquest mode, challenging Taven to a fight, after the latter invades the Lin Kuei Palace. Before the outcome of the battle could be decided, Sub-Zero takes notice to the dragon tattoo he had on his face, commenting that it was similar to the one on the vault door containing the armor Taven's mother left for him. Taven acquires the armor and the Lin Kuei Palace is invaded once again, this time by Noob Saibot and Smoke who turn the Lin Kuei warriors into cyborg demons. Sub-Zero asks Taven to choose sides and Taven helps defeat the demons. Taven then defeats Smoke and eventually, Noob Saibot, who had attacked Sub-Zero. Sub-Zero shows his thanks by revealing to him the location of the stronghold to the Red Dragon Clan. Sub-Zero then attempts to cleanse his brother, Noob Saibot's, soul. It is unknown as to whether he is successful. In Sub-Zero's Armageddon ending, after the defeat of Blaze, he attains God-like power. This, combined with his power from the Dragon Medallion, Sub-Zero became so all powerful that he became an Ice God. This however, was without the consent of the Elder Gods, who responded by sending their Champions to destroy him.

45. Claude The character is known simply as "Claude" in Grand Theft Auto III canon. While his name is never obviously disclosed in GTA III, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas hinted "Claude" as his name, as uttered by Catalina during several phone conversations. There is also evidence hidden in the GTA III's data files that the player was once allowed to enter their own character name, and the "DEFNAM" (default name) value for it was "Claude" [1]. In the light of these revelations, there is speculation that Claude is the same person as Claude Speed. Claude's last name is never disclosed in GTA III and GTA:SA, thus it remains unclear whether the GTA III and GTA:SA renditions of Claude is in fact the same individual as the GTA2 rendition of Claude. However, GTA III shares a few elements with GTA2 (among them, the mention of "Zaibatsu Pharmaceuticals" that is similar to the Zaibatsu Corporation gang in GTA2, the Head Radio station, and the distribution of districts in Liberty City), lending at least some credibility to this claim. To date, Rockstar has yet to clarify the connection between the two characters.

44. Wakka Wakka is a playable character in the Square-Enix video game Final Fantasy X. He is characterized by a long reddish-orange quiff and a Besaid Island accent (the real-world equivalent of which would be a Polynesian accent). As such, he uses such speech-mannerisms as saying "brudda" for "brother" and finishing sentences with "ya?". His name means "water" in Ainu. In addition to being one of Summoner Yuna's guardians and childhood friends, Wakka is also a professional blitzball player and captain of the Besaid Aurochs, a team that — as of the beginning of Final Fantasy X — went ten years without winning a single game. He uses blitzballs as his weapons in battle, and, as such, is the only character who can reliably hit flying monsters with basic attacks. His abilities give the party boosts in attack accuracy and also inflict negative statuses — such as Darkness, Silence and Sleep — on enemies. Wakka is one of the first people to befriend Tidus after his arrival in the mainland of Spira, due both to his blitzball prowess and his resemblance to Wakka's deceased younger brother, Chappu. Chappu is a fairly prominent figure in Wakka's history, and was romantically involved with Wakka's close friend and fellow guardian Lulu before he left to join the Crusaders, a militant group dedicated to defeating Sin. He was killed in battle while using a machina weapon provided by the Al Bhed, and for this reason, Wakka's religious distaste of the Al Bhed hardened into a more personal grudge. Wakka's hatred of the Al Bhed slowly transforms from blatant racism into an enlightened respect during the course of Final Fantasy X, as he closely befriends one of their number (Rikku), learns that his long-time friend Yuna is half Al Bhed and comes to realize the irrational nature of his prejudice. Despite his formerly deep-seated mistrust of machina and the Al Bhed, he takes to their airship with few misgivings and also fights unquestioningly in their defense during an attack on their city on Bikanel Island. Wakka and Tidus develop a very close brother-like relationship over the course of the game, which at first angers Lulu. However, she eventually sees Tidus in a new light and begins to relate to him in a similar fashion. Wakka and Lulu, for their part, develop a deeper relationship of their own, marrying one another in the six months that follow the end of Final Fantasy X. In Final Fantasy X-2, Wakka stresses over the responsibilities of being the father of Lulu's soon-to-be-born baby (even claiming it's tougher than fighting Sin). Further symbolizing Wakka's acceptance of the Al Bhed, he names their son "Vidina" — the Al Bhed word for "future" — after he is born.
