I used to be obsessed with the Genius when Lanny debuted the character. Would insist on pushing him in my friend's fantasy WWF league.
I met him twice and both were pleasant experiences.
And remember, he is 1-0 against the Hulkster.

I always felt really bad for Lanny over the HoF thing. His brother put him in a really tough spot, and Lanny was stuck between honoring Macho's wishes and being treated awfully by wrestling fans because of it. I was happy when he finally gave in and let them induct Macho, not because I care about the stupid HoF, but because it wasn't right for Lanny to spend the rest of his life with that weight on his shoulders.

It is my opinion that Lanny had the best WCW contract run.
In total seriousness, seven year old me wanted to murder the Genius. Rest well legend.

Very underrated talent , RIP Underrated gets overused a lot, but Lanny Poffo is just about the perfect example of a guy who is underrated. Certainly by today's fans who if they know him at all likely just know him as Macho's brother from the hall of fame speech and a file photo of him in a graduation cap. He was a case of wrong place wrong time, he could have been seen as a real trailblazer, and his combination of athleticism and charisma could have made him a bigger star than a jtts then manager.

Absolutely devastatingly sad and, as it's been mentioned, probably the last guy you'd expect to read about his death. Never did steroids, pills or smoked anything, life-long vegetarian ("No flesh, fish or fowl" as he was proud of saying) and when he said he wanted to have a match at 100, it felt like he was actually going to do it.
He was very close with Evan of Legends Radio (the producer of 'The Wrestler' and '350 Days') and I became friends with Evan about a decade ago from a great restaurant he had on the lower east side. Evan's a great guy and when I was trying to reach Lanny without much luck while writing a piece about his brother's rap album, Evan vouched for me and connected us. The Genius was so generous with his time and thoughtful with his words. Since then he'd text me or write on my Facebook wall every year on my birthday. I interviewed him again a year later when there was a movement to give his brother a status in Columbus, Ohio where he was born and he again was so generous and thoughtful. I finally got to connect with him in person in 2019 on Wrestlemania weekend (he was doing a signing at Wrestlecon and shoot gave every single dollar given to him that day to the Special Olympics) and he was so, so kind. (He let me put on one of his brother's robes and wear his Hall of Fame ring). All because I interviewed him twice and he really liked it/me.
He did so much for so many people. Literally yesterday he was in New York seeing 'Wicked' on Broadway and still posting about it mere hours ago. He loved musical theater (he's probably seen 'CATS' more time than people I know who've actually been in 'CATS') and if there's any comfort to be taken from an unexpected tragedy like this, it's that his last day on Earth was him doing absolutely all of his favorite things one last time.

Absolutely underrated, a dude who could make gold out of just about everything he was given
I think about when he came out with Lethal at the first All In, I'm glad he got his flowers in a way, appreciation for his gimmicks and just as a performer and could appreciate it and take it all in that it was all worth it, always seemed to be a humble, grateful dude, and I'm glad for that.
Gone, but a Genius is never forgotten, RIP

Very surprised to hear this as he always kept himself in good shape and was never a drug guy at least that I know of. RIP Lanny.

Thinking about it, is he the end of the Poffo line? I know Randy never had any kids, but did Lanny?

Rest in peace, Genius.
Been watching a bunch of older rasslin, and people are right when they say he was ahead of his time. He brought a level of acrobatic athleticism in the ring that wasn't seen back then.

Very surprised to hear this as he always kept himself in good shape and was never a drug guy at least that I know of. RIP Lanny. He did briefly use steroids, was getting results that were good enough that he said guys like Warrior were giving him kudos, but he thought better of it and quit using them. I don't recall him ever bringing up any other drugs, though.

Wow, unbelievable. Lanny always looked healthy in the photos that I’ve seen. R.I.P The Genius My favorite Genius moment:
Lanny Poffo had a poem: Jimmy Hart and Adrian are planning a surprise, with a pair of scissors and a sleeper hold. If Piper leaves for Hollywood with no hair on his head, they figure his career is going to fold. They have conjured up a scheme to ruin his happy day, and make it hard to get an acting job. I sure hope his plans aren't thwarted March the 29th, BECAUSE ADONIS IS A FAT DISGUSTING SLOB! Adonis attacked him immediately!
Jesse Ventura: “I find Poffo’s poem absurd!” Gorilla Monsoon: “Why Jess?” Jesse: “Because I’m bald and I’m a movie star!”
