I remember watching it as a kid and at the time thinking it didn't really look like THAT bad of a crash for how serious it was being treated
It accomplished what it needed to do and got the NAO aligned with DX at least

If one is watching 1998 WWF you know what your expecting, and knowing its still in the early stages of the Attitude Era, it sets the ground work for what was to come (hawk being pushed off the tron).
They did go a bit long with the aftermath of it, and what does make it look dumb is Cactus Jack & Funk returning later that night in the main event, if you're going to sell it like their paralyzed wait until the next week for them to come back.

I mean, AEW re-did the spot last year, although at least then it was done to humiliate heels rather than as a dastardly heel act.
I remember it got a reaction out of 13 year old me at the time though. I wanted someone to kill the Outlaws.
